Coworker and I are looking at coming up to P4 one or both of the last two weekends of September to get a little more boat time in before I get consumed by the whitetail woods. Never fished up there in the fall, or much of anywhere else in the fall, does the trolling bite still work there in late September? Looking to stay on the ‘lake’ (very little experience working in current) and the plan is to chase walleye in the AM and switch to bass mid day (co-workers forte).

Trolling or better yet a denver rig will catch fish. There are a few up near the dam from what I’ve seen but there’s more fish at the can line, Maiden Rock and even some decent numbers in the WI Backchannel.

By the end of Sept there may be more fish near the dam as some will start moving up out of the lake depending on water temp and flow.

I’m heading down to Red Wing this weekend with a couple of buddies for our first real effort at finding some walleye/sauger/crappie on P4. Does anyone have any thoughts on what all the rain in the last few days will do to the fishing? And any suggestions on where to target them with the current conditions? Thanks!

From my limited knowledge….low water = good, high water = great, falling water levels = good, quickly rising water = bad.

but who knows, from what I have seen from upstream in Hastings. Water clarity has gone from good, to chocolate.

The fish have been shallow for me the last few weeks trolling (6-10′) I would guess fish are still around and even better if its out of the current now.
