I was fishing south of there on Friday, near Winona to be more specific I got on the water fishing by 10 had four keeper walleyes by 1030 by 11 it was all shorts 13-14 inchers on nearly every cast , jig worked but best was hook line and sinker on the bottom casting behind the boat and just drifting down a little stretch about halfway through each drift fish on burned up a dozen crawlers I found on the street and a full scoop of fatheads before 230 I was actually getting tired of catching walleyes if u can believe that I must’ve boated 100 eyes that day with only the first four being keepers was an incredibly fun day to say the least I saw water temps around 51-53 degrees that day from what I seen they all looked like males no chunky females yet , i was the only boat launched at this place and only saw one other boat come within a quarter mile

Anyone have thoughts on catching eating size walleyes or saugers?

Thursday two of us caught big ones and little ones. We had a fat 28”, 24.25” and a 20”, all released. The rest were in the 13” range. Caught them in the same spot. Was a great day, but also wanted some fish to eat.

Was surprised there weren’t any 15-19” ones mixed in with them.

The 20” and a handful of those 13”s Would be decent eaters IMHO. I generally shoot for the 14-20” fish for eating, but a couple inches on either side of that is ok if necessary

I’d keep the 13” saugers most likely….they fry up well. Nothing wrong with keeping a 20” but those filets get too big.

Interesting comment on the sheepies. I didn’t realize they like less current. Good tip to keep in the arsenal.

What about white bass? We got into a mess of them in a few spots Monday on 4. Caught them right in the mix of the walleyes in a couple spots. Also found them isolated where we marked a ton of fish…might’ve been walleyes mixed in but couldn’t keep the white bass away.

Personally, I don’t keep 20” and over walleyes, especially before the spawn.
We had a couple tiny saugers and the rest of the walleyes were under 15”. Was surprised there weren’t any 15-19” walleyes mixed in

Kinda same for us….it was good to catch the over 20” fish but this time of year you should be able catch tons of eater males.

I think the water cooled and got dirty and screwed the bite up a bit. It should be really firing back up again.
