I tried casting crankbaits on Wingdams tonight. The first thing I noticed was the water was up and a little dirtier tonight compared to last weekend which helped wd fishing. I seemed to get bit pretty quick so I didn’t spend too much time on any wingdam; maybe 10 to 15 min max. I was using my Terrova I-pilot with spotlock which is so easy to preciously position on each wingdam. I also found re-positioning to a different cast angle can produce a bite casting in the same spot.

Fishing was pretty good tonight for numbers…Nothing big but good numbers between 18″ and 22″. I have been fishing wingdams with a Rapala DT6 more and I think I like it better than the DT10.

KWP – Your report is a lot like mine. The kid has been using DT6’s and doing very well. I have been switching it around and trying different things. Best lure for me has been the GSR7 rap. The walleyes we have seen have been in the 17 – 23 range. Have been seeing a lot more decent smallie’s with the biggest just under 20. Had a really nice walleye come unzipped boat side on Sunday.

How many guys use blades during the summer?

Catfishing the main channel last weekend picked up an eye on a crawler, and figured might as well cast around just to test the new waters, left all my other tackle at home only thing I had in boat was a pink/white blade and smashed 2 right away. Love how they hit those things. But then started to rain and found refuge under bridge then went in. Kind of anxious to get back out and see whether it was trend or mirage.

I dont use them during the summer. Just like plastics usually hold off on them until water temps drop. Not that they wont catch fish this time of year. Just think there are other more productive methods. If the fish are hitting them right now give them what they want.
