An exciting start to a little Labor Day fishing. KWP was waiting at the 494 launch and some numb nuts forgot to set his parking brake taking out his Warrior. All in the sudden, his truck is up to the mirrors in water, numb nuts is back on his boat attempting a power load, but suddenly his trailer is a little too deep. Like 4 -5 feet too deep.

And like a flash, into P2 goes KWP, IDO Superhero. Doin’ it Baywatch style, in his un-naturally lime green knee boots and all. He jumps in, gets inside the truck, and stop it and shuts down the engine just before it gulps water and is shot to sh!t.

For his trouble, and his drowned cell phone, the asshat made some lame excuse about the parking brake not working and he wished the truck would have kept going as then he could have gotten a new one. Not a word of thanks. What a f##kstick.

So after that little bit of excitement, we put the army green KWP Sherman Tank in the water and got down to business.

Trolling produced some nice fish. Not great numbers, but some decent 20s. They seemed to be in the flats outside of the channels almost everywhere, but we didn’t lock on to any concentrations.

Wing dams with the D6s only produced one fish and for once I actually caught it. Let me repeat that, for once…

A beautiful day to be out there, though. Where else could you go in the cities, on Labor Day, to catch a few 20+ inchers and basically have the place to yourself.

And if you find yourself in need of rescue, just call KWP. In a few days, after his cell phone dries out or he gets a new one.

I got my smartphone soaking in rice right now…Hopefully it will dry out in a few days. One lesson to be learned is the speed in which that truck backed into P2 when he bunked his boat. I am always careful when winching my boat but now I will be even more careful. The only thing that finally stopped it was when the landing finally flatted out in the river.

Another P2 note to all that fish it…There is a huge yellow jacket hive right next to the cement steps toward the river side about halfway down at the 494 ramp. I recommend walking along the grass hill over the bike path.

Attaboy KWP you did good. They sure come out of the woodwork on the holidays. Worth selling spectator seats at the boat launch I was at. Almost, well i kinda did, lost my cool with all the idiots that think they can tie up their boat blocking ramps(full of people that have a valid drivers license I may add) and walk to their vehicle and wait in a line about 300 yards long blocking others that want to load or launch, instead of letting a driver out and freeing up launch space. I had a guy with 5 driving age people do that to me while I was backing my boat down the ramp and he asks me what I was doing because he was gonna load, well I blew up by then and said “THIS IS NOT YOUR FFING PERSONAL DOCK A-HOLE,U NEED TO LET A DRIVER OUT AND MOVE THE BOAT UNTIL ITS TIME TO LOAD IDIOT,CANT YOU SEE HOW FF’ED UP THIS IS BECAUSE OF ALL YOU IDIOTS THAT THINK YOU CAN TIE UP AND BLOCK THE RAMPS(6 ramps i may add) DONT YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS BY HAVING SOMEONE DRIVE THE TRUCK/CAR AND TRAILER AND SOMEONE TO DRIVE THE BOAT DUMD-A” I may need blood pressure medicine the next holiday. KWP i would have used my cellphone to video it then post it on youtube as an educational video and submitted to americas funniest home videos($10,000 prize)LOL.

Thanks for the report and great job KWP! Glad it wasn’t my truck with the warrior attached headed down into the drink! Too bad the owner owned didn’t truly appreciate what you did for him. Regardless you’ve got some good karma in the bank!

Hope to start spending more time on Pool-2 and less time on the Croix.

What’d you have for water temps? 73-74?

Didnt really pay attention to water temps on 2 yesterday Pete. Guessing it was low 70s. That was where the Croix was on Sunday.

Good job on the save Ken. Think we seen that warrior pass us a few times yesterday. Did get a little busy on the river in the afternoon. Good thing is most of those folks loaded there boats for the last trip of the year this weekend. Just in time for the good fishing to start kicking in on the river.

Our bite was kinda slow yesterday to. Fish here and there on the wingdams. Cranks, crawlers and willow cats all picked one up here and there. Trolling cranks was a little better action. Red flicker shads seemed to be working well. Had to work for our fish but did end up with a couple of 25″ers for big fish of the day. One decent sized pike to.

I cant even imagine owning a manual transmission tow vehicle for that reason alone.

Nice ‘ungrateful’ save. Was out yesterday afternoon from 3-7pm and could not get much of a bite going. They seemed to get a little hungry for about an hour and that was it. Picked up a nice 25″ and a smaller 17″ is much faster current than I would expect them to be. We missed two more….

Can’t blame me either, my poor little Warrier has seen very limited duty all summer. ATTA BOY KWP. Good luck with your phone- – -jerr

WTG. Saved some guy a lot of grief. I have often thought about sitting at a boat launch with a video camera but I don’t know if I could stand it for very long.
