Anyone have any recommendations for outboard repair near St. Paul? I’m up in Mahtomedi, so if it’s near the NE suburbs then even better!

I have an 89′ Evinrude 25hp that needs some servicing. It was stored at the in-laws farm and mice made a nice nest inside the case. I’m gonna take an air compressor to it to clean it out real good and get a better look, but at the very least they chewed through a few wires :(.

Anyone have any experience working on these things, if it’s just a few wires needing replacing does that sound like a pretty quick job?

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the rec, I’ll give him a call. Oak Grove’s a bit far but I’m not unwilling to drive a bit for good service.

Maplewood Marin . Those old boys know small and older outboards.

A guy working on the side might be a good route for that older motor, but if you decide you want to work with a dealer I’ve had great service at Hannay’s in NE Mpls.

They won’t be around much longer. Shutting it down and retiring.

THat sucks Phil. My 70 crapped out yesterday.

SJ Hansen in Northfield is my closest reccomendation to you.

Your going to find that everyone is booked!!
I found lower unit oil leaking out my prop yesterday morning. Drove immediatley to my mechanic who’s got boats coming out his ears! He couldn’t even give me a date. Well, since i do spend some money there he drop called me this morning and told me to bring it in. Hopefully i get it back and repaired and have some money left for beer at the end of the day today )

    PHil,
I have a 25HP that you can drive down to owatonna and borrow too. Great runner. Pull start. I’d trust you with it.

I’ve been using Mike Borchard in Owatonna recently, but have had excellent service from SJ in Northfield too. Both people you can trust.

Thanks for the offer Andy. I’m not in a gigantic hurry for it, but my wife seems to be :). Northfield might be a bit far, but I’ll keep those guys in mind.

I called Maplewood marine and honestly the guy who I talked to was quite rude. Not sure if I’m going to take it there. I am going to continue calling around.

Doesn’t surprise me. Took me years to like them a little.

I ended up taking the motor to catnip’s buddy Ben last night. Awesome dude, thanks for the recommendation catnip, he looks like a total pro when it comes to those motors.

Your welcome Phil. Glad I could help out. He definitely knows his stuff, he has been working on outboards since he was 12 I think.

I have used SJ Hansen in Northfield many times over the years for my older motors and always been satisfied with his work and honest opinion if something was worth fixing or not which is a consideration on some older units.
