Got the boat back about a week ago now. I wound up going with Countryview Marine. Here’s the details.
The adjuster from progressive seemed more than accommodating and seemed absolutely determined to get the lower unit back to good working condition. He was adamant about getting the gears inspected for cracks or potential damage. With that said, he flat out suggested that Countryview was on their list of unfavorable shops. He went as far as saying they discuss them in meetings and how to handle customers the want to go there. He didn’t say it outright but seemed to suggest that they go well beyond the damages from the claim and try and get other damages covered. I called Countryview to ge their side of the story and they assured me there wasn’t a story to be told. They work with Progressive all the time.
I was adamant about going there and he knew there was nothing he could do. After dropping my boat off there the adjuster called and found out that the guy at the front desk is someone he’s worked with at a body shop and is on good terms with him.
They tore into the LU and found some damage to the gears so it was determined they would be replaced and the total bill would be about $4300. Countryview called me and said they could rebuild it at that cost or they could offer me a rebuilt lower unit at about $100 more with a warranty for the remainder of the season. I went ahead and had them put the reman lower unit on.
I took it out today and it’s as smooth as butter. So far so good and I am very happy with Countryview marine and ultimately happy with how Progressive ended up covering everything. I ended up with a $125 deductible and about $100 extra cost for the reman LU.
I will be going back to Countryview if I ever need to.
