Replacing the transom on a 2002 lund fisherman with a 125 mercury motor. Currently the motor is mounted in the second hole down from the top. The owner says the boat when he trim up very little the motor seems to cavitate at wide open and says seems like the front of the boat is not comming up enough. Looking for suggestions to either mount the motor down one hole or maybe a 4 blade prop.

I would leave at where it is until you can run it after the transom replacement, guessing he ran an aluminum prop. Going to a stainless prop with more cupping is going to make a huge difference in how it runs.
