So my brother bought a new boat it’s a Lund adventure 1775 great boat but one thing is when we get going on plane she gets a list on the port side of the boat and if we speed up it gets really bad to the point I’m almost behind the drivers seat sitting wiyel my bro drives and the boat pulls really hard to the port side it doesn’t go strait at all doing 40 almost have to fight it and it’s a 2019 boat motor from Lund!? Everything is distributed evenly around the boat we have a bow mount on the port side but it shouldn’t have that much to do with it should it or is it something else????? Should we just get stabilizer fins? What do you think it bugs us only being able to go 28-30mph when you know you can do 45mph!!!

Look at, and adjust accordingly, the little fin just above the prop that makes a world of difference when properly set
June 29, 2020 at 12:48 pm #1953405Since it is new, I would go back to the dealer and have them adjust the little fin that Jesse is referring to. I am sure that is what is causing you the problems assuming you are trimming your boat right.
June 29, 2020 at 1:22 pm #1953426Depending on the engine, it may not have the fin above the prop being referred to. Our Merc 150 4 stroke does not have one. It could be an issue with the hull. Using a straight edge running along the hull from the transom forward, each side of the keel, look for a difference in shape from one side to the other. If one side has more rocker (or cup) front to back than the other, it could cause this. I learned about this on an early 2000’s Alumacraft. Had a porpoising issue and the fix was to slightly peen (hammer) the very back edge of the hull plate. Maybe not the issue, but an easy thing to check.
June 29, 2020 at 1:34 pm #1953428Could also be the motor is not mounted high enough on the transom.
May seem like a stupid question but you did not mention trim in your post. Does your Bro know what the trim button is for and how to use it properly?
Believe it or not, have seen new boat owners with no idea what it was for other than lifting the motor while trailering…..

June 29, 2020 at 3:07 pm #1953456Lol yes we trim it out and it gets a-little better to a point but still does it if there’s three of us go or take the dog it’s like a counter balance and planes fine with the trim perfect! I’ll try the fin tab on the Motor should I turn it to the port or starberd side to compensate for the port list thanks guys for the info!!!!!!!!!!!
June 29, 2020 at 4:38 pm #1953468Correct me if I am wrong but the trim tab on the anti-ventilation plate is for countering motor torque. I thought adjusting this is if your boat steers left or right without input, the same as an alignment for a car. I am not sure why your boat is listing but I don’t think the fin has anything to do with it. Boats will list if there is a wind blowing across your boat. Good Luck.
June 29, 2020 at 11:18 pm #1953538Measure the motor bracket to make sure it is dead center (or slightly starboard) on the transom and square. Moving the motor just a quarter inch to Starboard may fix your issue.

I was thinking the same thing. Torque steer and listing are two separate things. If your boat is listing you have a hull issue, a motor mount issue, or a weight distribution issue.
June 30, 2020 at 10:25 am #1953624Since it’s brand new I would recommend bothering your dealer to figure it out. We know, based on your description, what the possibilities are. However one of the big benefits of buying new is the warranty/ dealer support. Let them troubleshoot it for you if it’s feasible.
June 30, 2020 at 2:09 pm #1953696Go back and look at the cavitation plate ( the flat large fin above the prop.) It sounds like its a motor height issue with the plate dragging. At plane it should be out of the water a little. If not it will dig in the more you trim up and cause listing. A 1″ raise or drop of the engine on the transom makes a big difference. This will also affect your prop, as well as the WOT Rpm’s if that’s what needs adjusting.Dealers are notorious for mounting almost all of the engines at the top or second hole, regardless of boat size, transom etc.
