Fishing for more years than I care to admit I finally buried a treble hook in my finger today. Cut the bait off and off to the hospital I went.

Lessons learned? Don’t attempt to swing a snot rocket into the boat and grab it when the crankbait is bigger than the fish. grin

get well soon Dutchboy !! hope it wasnt too deep !!
had to use the string removal method on my son in law two years ago after doing the same thing with a walleye.
worked so slick he didnt even know I had done it until I told him it was out.
a little neosporin,a bandaid and he was back to fishing in a couple of minutes.

So, a couple of years ago while on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, my brother buries a hook in a finger. Off to the clinic in Mercer, the lady asks if we have an appointment. When we said no, she responded that she didn’t think they’d be able to help us that day. Off to Minocqua we went, only another 45 minutes away,,,,

Of course, when we got there, my brother wasn’t the only guy in the waiting room with a fishing hook in his finger,,,,,,,,

That’s exactly how it happened to me. I grabbed the line with it with my rod under tension from the dangling hammerhandle. Rapala popped out of his mouth and into my hand. Luckily I was with my nephew and brother-in-law and knew about the line trick.

I’d put money on that little pike cause the majority of impaled hook accidents.

Read this thread last night and counted my lucky stars I’ve never been hooked. Well I just got done pulling a hook out of my finger. Went to crab something out of a compartment in the boat that was stuck. Pulling on it hard and my hand slipped off and landed right into a crankbait. Boy that hurt!!! A little amoxicillin and a bandaid and we are back at it but don’t want to experience that again

Did er last year as well. Just did the poke it through the other side trick snip the Barb and pull right out trick. Interesting watching a hook push up your skin from the inside grin

I used this technique on my semi-trusting brother a few years ago and saved a fishing trip. I told him that I’d seen this done on You Tube and that I thought I could do it. It worked like a charm.

X2, hardest part was pushing it through the skin. Maybe my hooks were getting dull? Cleaned the wound with a little Natty Ice and good to go.

I launched a treble hook into my arm yesterday, luckily it was only a size 10 from a trout spinner, but definitely was surprising. Drove home with the spinner dangling from my arm. Cut the hook and had my wife grip the point that I had pushed out and pull. Came out without a hitch. If I had had stronger needle nose with while fishing I would have likely had it out without ever leaving the stream.

I put a triple grip treble point straight into the meat between my minded finger and middle finger. I tried the line trick with my buddy and he didn’t pull hard enough. Twice. I sucked it up and tied the line to a cleat and pulled it out that way. The line trick works really well. But you gotta snap the slack out to pull fast and hard. It does hurt an awful lot!

What really hurts is when you’re alone, have one hook in your finger and one in the pike and he’s thrashing around on the bottom of the boat. Put my foot on the pike and was able to reach my pliers and unhook him. Lesson learned the hard way.

Had my brother catch a 42” musky, I netted it, and when he went to remove the lure she jumped. He had the 5/0 trouble hook in his hand and the other end still in the fish. The more the fish jumped the whiter his face went. Luckily both were unhooked and released quickly. The tip of the hook was sticking out of the other side of his finger. So I pushed it out to the bard, cut it off, and back out it went. chased We left the lake, cleaned it up, and was back on the lake musky fishing with in an hour and half.

I once got hand-cuffed by a small pike. Went to unhook the fish and it thrashed around burying a treble hook into my other hand. I was left holding the fish in one hand with the crank bait hanging from the other trying to figure out what to do next. I forgot the details but I think the fish thrashed again which allowed the hole to open up a little more in my hand. I just pulled the hook out after that.

It would probably be wise to have some kind of disinfectant/ointment along every time fishing just in case. Sounds like a good infection candidate with that type of wound.

Actually, come to think of it I was hooked because I had him around the neck and he slipped. I remember thinking don’t start flailing around fish. Luckily he didn’t and my nephew was able to secure the fish and get the hook out of him.

I’ll try to keep this short.
Tom got a hook in his thumb.
Jeff says I can get it out with a piece of line. Explains it to Tom
Tom says I’ll go to ER
As soon as Doctor walks in the room he asks nurse for piece of line. Dr took it out just like Jeff said he’d do it.

Had to pull one out of myself up on Winnipeg a few years ago. I got the hook in my hand and told my buddy he was going to have to pull it out for me. He turned white as a ghost and said, “no way”. I did it, but it is kind of hard to tell yourself you are going to yank it out on the count of 3, when you know you’re going to yank it on 2…….Had pulled one out of my dad the day before.

    Pro Tip:

When pulling out a lure, remove the hook from the lure first. You’re welcome.

Never got one in my hand but I did catch the corner of my brothers ear when we were younger. Hook went smooth through the upper corner. I think what really hurt was the follow through of my cast, though. That tug might’ve been a little uncomfortable. We just snipped the hook and pulled it through.

Couple years later that same brother stabbed me with a filet knife so I think we’re even. I was holding the knife case and when he went to slide the knife in, he missed the case and went right into my hand. Never hurt but it sure bled.

    Dutch,
I also took a trip to the ER about 3 or 4 years ago. Exact same thing happened. Trolling for muskies. Hooked at little snake. Grabbed my crankbait. Fish shook. Hook went through the tip of my index finger. It is amazing how well the barbs work on the hook. I tried pulling it out for like 2 seconds and it didn’t budge. I cut the hook and let the doctor deal with it.

I got hooked in the middle finger several years ago. I had a low 40″ musky in the net, who then barrel rolled totally entangling itself in the net.
In the process of trying to untangle it, another barrel roll happened and the free trailer treble hook went through my finger with the fish still attached.
Thrashing around like crazy in the net with me attached.
I had a musky fishing novice in my boat and unfortunately I didn’t have my bolt cutter to cut the hook. Having concern over the welfare of the fish even though I was in a uncomfortable predicament I told my buddy to grab my tackle box, open it and take the fillet knife out. He eagerly obliged and then I told him I wanted him to cut my finger with the knife above the hook. It had popped completely through the skin and was very deep.
He said “you want me to do what?” LOL
He did it and it hurt like hell. Wrapped my finger up and went to the ER and received 8 stitches.

Oh my I thought you were going to say you jumped into the lake with the musky and waited for the Dr to come to you.
