    Hello all,
I am taking my Otter Resort out for the first time this weekend and was trying to figure out the best way to safely transport it. I only have enough room for my wheeler on the trailer so I have to haul it in the back of the truck. I am not worried about the sled sticking out the back of the truck and resting on the tailgate, but I was trying to figure out a way that I could securely chain/tie it down so nobody can steal it when it is sitting outside in the parking lots. Any ideas?

Just a thought. When you take a sharp turn with your tailgate down, will your trailer hit the trucks tailgate?

Buy a truck cap or chain / cable through the hoops of the otter to the truck somewhere. These are honest people remedies, if somebody really wants it they will get it. Sorry, that’s the reality.

Maybe I’m naive but when I’m out of town I take my valuables out of the portable, cover it, and put a couple ratchet straps over. Park in a lighted area. If someone is willing to risk making the commotion to free the straps and unload the portable, well their probably crazy and would take it anyway. That resort isn’t very light, so that may be enough security in itself.

Yeah, it would hit the tailgate. I actually have the shack in the back with the tailgate shut (It rests on top of the tailgate when it is shut. I do take my valuables inside also, but a 1200 dollar shack is the most expensive of them all. ha ha. I have done the whole ratchet straps and lighted parking lots in the past and I think that is what I will have to stick with. Maybe replace the ratchet straps with a chain that I can overlap and lock with a padlock? I don’t know, like mentioned, if someone wants it bad enough they are going to get it.

Another option is a movement detecting alarm. As soon as somebody messes around it either blasts a piezo siren, or can alert you via remote. You can look them up through car / motorcycle aftermarket parts dealers. Then you need to decide for yourself how you would confront the scumbags…now that will start a thread here.

On my otter lodge I run the eye of my tie down straps through the hitch pins where the hitch connects to the tub. I then run the other end of the straps to the corner hold downs in my box. I then run a pickup box size cargo net over everything. Nice and tight and keeps the tarp from flapping. Flapping tarps/covers will wear on straps that run across the house. The cargo net keeps everything type. A good cargo net is available at any truck accessory store. Go to Canada and LOW every year with this setup.
