I’m looking for one too. Are there other ones – maybe not necessarily made for rods that you like?

I have one and its a solid unit. I like it. The price has come down on them too because of competition from Frabil and others. Some gun cases work just as well and is probably another reason for the drop in price. Check out Plano gun cases. Either online or at Gander.

Also I just noticed the Frabil Rod Safe and it looks like a nice unit too. Check this out. Mills has them. I would like to hear some feedback from anyone that has one.

It is a great case – Rather limited in how many rods it will hold. The most I’ve been able to fit in mine is 4 and that is rather tight. May be able to get a 5th depending on Length of rod. You just need to play around with the layout to figure out how best top get the rods lined up in it.

I think the big reason the Otter case is the ability to keep the reel handles out and not have to fold them in.

I’ve had a smaller Plano takedown case for about $25 that fit 4 rods under 32″ easily.

I just bought a Flambeau Tactical case that I really like. I got it on sale for about $30 around Christmas. I think it’s a 40 or 42″ case, and I easily fit 5 rods in it between 24-32 inches. I think I can fit 6 if I’m really careful, and at least a couple are shorter at around 28 inches or less.

Only downside to either case I’ve used is having to fold the handles down, but it hasn’t been a major issue for me.

I think the Otter would be really nice if you don’t mind spending an extra $40 or so compared to most of the gun cases.

I have one and wish I had purchased one sooner, but I hate spending money thinking cheaper might be well enough. I think this is the 4th season with mine.

I can fit 6 rods which are all either 34″ or 36″ in length. Not sure you can fit much more than that.

Light weight. .. durable. . Fits 6 rods depending on length will fit 4 32″ rods with reel. Well built. .. one of the better rod case out there if not the best. My brother bought a frabil because it was $25. It doesn’t compare period. . We use mines when we only need one case. IMO its worth it.. got mines at Thorne bros for $75

for as mush $$ as you spend on rods and reels, why skimp a few $$ and not protect them? seems like a no brainer decision, it was for me… I fit 4 rod/reel combos comfortably, could fit 2 more if needed…I keep it up against the back wall of my otter cabin tub at all times…

Check out Cabelas tundra case. Holds 8 rods and has 5 outside pockets for tackle etc. Holds everything I Need. They were on sale for 60 but that was a couple weeks ago.

I have the Otter and love it. I have not broken a rod since I started using it. I can get up to 6 spinning combos in my case with rods up to 36″ but most of mine are 28″. I do fold the handles down on my spinning reels just to make they fit well and I am not putting pressure on them. I was in a Fleet Farm recently and saw an Otter rod box on the shelf for $60 on clearance – I was really surprised but it did not last long. I have been using my case for 4 seasons now and the only complaint is that it can be a little bulky but I bought it to protect my rods and that is exactly what it does and it does it well.

Some of the other cases look decent and provide more protection than the old rod bags did but I can’t comment since I don’t own or use any of them.

I have been using one for 3 years now. I have 7 rods in it most of the time. Most of the rods are 28″ noodles with a couple 24″ ones mixed in. I have not had a rod break yet.

Yup, that was the Winona store. I would have bought it if I did not already have one. Hope you enjoy the case as much as I do.

I love mine! I’ve had it for 4 or 5 seasons now and can fit 6 rods and a small tackle box in it.

I just bought the Flambeau tactical case from Walmart. $29.00 I’ve used it on three trips now, can’t say a BAD thing about it. Strong and cheap best of both world’s.

Just checked on Walmart. 27.00 for the Flambeau 40″ tactical case. Very nice. If someone wants to see a pic with rods and tackle boxes let me know.

I was just thinking about it and I have 7 rods in my Otter box and two small bait boxes. It’s pretty tight but I’ve never had one damages and I’m not that easy on my equipment.
