Otter Mod to Hold Support Poles

The fishing was tough Friday so I took Saturday off to do a little Christmas shopping and I ran across some broom holders, that’s when the light went on. I always hated that the support poles in my shack bounce around all over the bottom of the tub. So this is what I came up with, the pole were a bear to get into the holders until I bent them open a bit. They still hold strong and it keeps thing nice and neat.

The pics were right in Windows but come out rotated on here, let’s see if this is better after rotating them in windows.

So much for that, I rotate them 1/4 and they go 1/2.

It’s a cool idea, but even that takes up space and weight (My Otter rod case just fits behind the seats in my Cabin) I’ve always figured you should have a good idea if you’ll need them or not before you leave for the lake or just keep them in the car/truck.

Great idea ice where did you find these? Like the poly coating over them.

Why did’t I think of that? Those poles are always in the way on the floor!

Menards, I think .99 for 2 of them, took 8 total. They were on sale and probably still are. The coating really holds them, I had to use a small bar to spread them open or I would of never got the poles inside of them.

Now I need to put some type of outdoor carpet on the bottom to keep things from sliding all over. I liked the idea of spraying the tub with a light colored plastic coat, maybe some light colored carpet?

I added a length of plastic rain gutter, high up along the front in one and the back in another, to both of my Otters to keep the poles in check. However, that took away a bit of space. In my smaller Otter with a bench, I prefer your approach much better as it takes up little to no space.

I thought about that as well, but now I’m thinking about removing the bench seating, leaving the bottom frame and adding 2 swivel seats and a table top between the seats. Not sure about this yet but I would love to have an area to set things on and in the lodge it could be a pretty good sized area with drink holders and more.

I bought two blue/grey boat seats today for mine and I’m building a 12″ deep storage box with a hinged lid. The box will have two 8″ rises so that it will sit down on the two support bars. Hard to explain but will fit snug, have lots of storage and easily removable. I’ll take some pics when complete.

    Lots of spare time!

Is the Storage box in front of the seat, under your legs?

Now those look comfy, do they have a swivel base included? If not I know where I can get some for free.

Nope, no base. I’m startingf to wonder about how cold weather will effect them. Shouldn’t be a problem once the heat is on and I’m sitting in them.

PM me on the bases if it’s something there are extras of.

Inbetween the seats, not sure how wide I’ll make it yet. About 20″ front to back. Kinda like a console in a truck.

For a small table/drink holder/storage item, I find it pretty hard to beat the otter sportsman caddy. A little spendy at $90 or so, but I have found it to be worth every penny for keeping all my crap in one accessible spot, plus it offers the flat surface to put my beer on so it is easier to knock over when I get a fish……. And it simply pops in or out at will, so you can place it wherever you want….between the seats, left or right, or in the truck if yu don’t want it there for some reason.

    Just another option……

The question is, will it fit the bench seat lower frame? If it will I’m all in, anyone have measurements or know if it will fit?

That is pretty much what I had in mind. Should even be able to play cards!! Will the seat lift up with it on?

Good question!, I am not sure? I know it fits over the cross bar that the swivel seats mount on, then rests on the tub edge, just like the seat brackets do, but I am not sure how the bench seat mounts. Never used one.

Not sure, I’d think so but can’t say for sure.

Accessories when it comes to anything are expensive, I’m sure the caddy is nice but…$90. I need to stay within a budget when it comes to fishing stuff, I’d rather buy a custom rod and fabricate the caddy plus it’s fun puttzing around with the stuff!
