Otter Lodge Rod Length?

I’m planning on getting an Otter Lodge before next ice season for use on Lake Erie and was wondering what the longest rod you can fish comfortably in one. Most of the rods I build for personal use are 32-36″ and I was wondering if I’ll be able to use them in it. Anyone with a lodge fish rods that long?

I think you’d be fine with that. I have an Otter Cabin and use 32 a lot, and could go longer. I could probably get away with 36, so the Lodge should fit that without trouble.

I fish with a 38 in my lodge a lot. No issues.

32″ and 34″ In my cabin.

36″ does work too but getting close to max with two guys.

My buddy and his dad were fishing lake trout with 42″ rods in their Otter Cottage and Otter Cabin with no problem. The Lodge is bigger yet. You’ll be totally fine.

I prefer to fish 32″ rods inside my lodge, but I regularly fish my 36″ precision and it works great. The past few weeks I’ve been targeting lakers and while it is a bit tight, using 40-42″ laker rods haven’t been an issue.

Lake trout fishing I use 42″ and 48″ rods with no problems at all.

Me too. I’ve been using a 45″ in mine. I do have to say though that lake trout fishing is a little different than walleye.

With lt, you typically reel up til you feel the bite. With walleye, I’ll typically lift the rod to make them chase before I reel up. This could put my holder into the roof.

Ultimately it comes down to awareness.
