Anyone here tried any? Thinking if ponying up the few hundred to get custom ones for the work boots. Every little bit helps for overall health when your body makes your money as it is for me.

But also don’t want to get into a gimmick that’s a waste.

Any experience I’d love to hear about!

I’m fairly sure that when Billy worked at the welding shop he bought orthotics from Red Wing Shoes. http://www.redwingshoes.com/. They hold up great and provided much needed support when wearing work boots and walking/standing on concrete all day.

i have had foot orthotics for many years. i was diagnosed with planters facitious. they claim us athletic types devil rotflol are often dealt with this.

on a serious note, as Sharon stated i spent alot of years on a cement floor in a welding faculity. i was “prescribed” these orthotics and they made molds of my feet. they were $400 bucks and not covered by insurance. flame

since i’ve been now also described as diabetic, Ins covers a good portion of them. but yes once you wore them in a bit, they helped immensely!!!!!!

I had some made five years ago. They were expensive! Like 200 each. Yes they work, and made my feet hurt less. I’m just not sure you need custom made anymore. There are kiosks that match your feet to a premade insert. I believe they are from dr.scholl’s. Maybe give that a try before dropping big money.

Been through all the dr.scholls, red wing, store bought inserts and been happy with em. Looking for a lil extra something something.

The custom ones that has been mentioned is what I’m curious about, would be done through my chiro.

well, all i can say is i have nothing but good things to say about them. i did however go through a foot specialist.

and like most Ins coverage, alot depends on how it is “CODED” by your provider to the Ins company!!!!!

Call up nearby colleges that have an Orthotics program. They typically will make you a custom set for super cheap(like $20).

When my sister was going to Northwestern Health Sciences in Bloomington the whole family was able to get them for like $5 a set.

I’m a roofer, and got plantar fasciitis in both feet very bad about 3 years ago. Life changing pain. Had to dress sitting on the floor in the am…. It’s different for everyone the docs say. I’ve had lots of physical therapy, but unless I could stay of my feet for like 3-6 months, it’s not gonna go away completely. I’ve tried every insole there is aside from custom orthotics. The best I’ve found are Georgia boot insoles. I have them in every pair of shoes/boots I own. Plus an extra in the truck. I probably change them in my work footwear every other month. At roughly 15 bucks a set x6 that’s alot less them customs that I’d guess I’d wear out in 6 months? Only looked into them once so not sure how long that last for sure.

Good point perch, was wondering if you simply take out inserts and put into whichever shoe you’re wearing. Would be easier to have 4-5 cheaper ones but all your shoes are set

yea they wear out but they last along time. over time i’ve got extra pairs. based on my diabetes i get beat up to go see foot, eye docs all the time so about every 3 years i go and get another set. they do last quiet a while and even if ins didnt pay for them they are work the money IMO.

I can only speculate on how long they’d last when I know how quickly I can wear out quality shoes or boots. So it’s hard to justify the extra cost. Maybe someday I’ll treat my feet a little more and get some customs to try out.

NO. the foot specialist makes a plaster type mold, peels it off my feet sends it out and 3-4 weeks later they call and i pick them up. if there is a manufacturer its probably with the packaging. and lets just say, i’m a little behind on my cardiologist, eye and foot appointments!!!!!!!! doah crazy
i may have in the past but i honestly dont recall. obviously i wasnt impressed or i would remember. and your right it was painfull as hell!!!!!! they put cotton swabs under my arches and that even helped.

estentially i guess thats the cause of it low arches!

I have been buying Keen workboots and Red Wing shoes orthotic insoles for the last 5+ years. This has been the best combo I have found. I even find they are more comfortable than my regular shoes. The insoles are $50 at the redwing shoe store. Also make sure you are getting the right size boots. Have your feet measured. I found out I need wide width shoes. Not knowing this I was buying bigger size shoes to compensate for this. Which results in the supports not the right size or in the right spots for my feet.

Those keens are nice, tried em on yesterday but salesman said not all keen is made here in US yet so I went thorogoods.

I’ve also had the inserts from red wing, I shop at now nokomis shoe shop which was the red wing years ago. Got tired of last 2 years buying 3-4 pairs of tennis shoes every year just for work. Went back to boots.

Still on the fence for custom inserts. I may just go cheaper route until I can find a good sale on em.

For a guy who works on his knees all day, you sure do seem to have some foot problems…May I suggest a feeler on CL (pun intended) about your feet, some people may compensate for foot stuff. Specially if they’re unique, like you say…You could use that money to pay for custom orthotics. Or you’ll find out you like the lifestyle and your problem is solved.

I had a pair of thorogoods ounce. I think your going to need supports for your supports after 8 months. 6 months if laying wood on stairs.
Those boots messed my feet up something fierce. They felt great for while then like a switch was flipped and all hell broke out. A pair of dancers fixed the problem in one day. I weir Georgia boots now cheaper and last longer, aside from the sheet rock screws holding the heel on but still water proof after 2 years.
