I have a Tuffy tiller. I will tell you that Tuffy has a fast hull and a real good ride. Here in Minnesota they don’t have much of a dealer network so you don’t see many around. That said you don’t read much negative about them on the net either. As far as the Merc goes finding info on them is easy. If the price is right don’t be afraid of the boat, it’s solid.

I love my Tuffy 1760, its a 2003 and is solid as a rock. On the back hangs a 2006 Merc 150 Verado. If it checks out and the price is right buy it.

Tilt the motor up and stand on the lower unit and bounce, there should be zero flex in transom. Remove transom saver first if there is one.

Tuffy switched to all composite hulls around 2005-2006 depending on model. Prior to that you have to be very careful with the wood transoms. I would recommend taking to a reputable boat repair shop that does transom work. They know what to check that us novices may miss. I’m guessing a transom replacement on that size of boat would be $4000-6000. If it is solid that is a great boat.
