    Hey guys!
A buddy and I are trying to plan some day trips up to grouse hunt a few different WMAs and I could really use some kind of point in the right direct. Man i miss grouse hunting north of duluth doah So the different options we have are Mille lacs wma, Four brooks WMA or Rum river state forest. I have never stepped foot in any of them but from what i can find looking at the maps is im leaning more towards Mille lacs just based on size and percentage of hard wood forests. Hopefully we will be able to get away from the crowds. Not looking for anyones honey holes just looking for some information on these different wmas and which ones might be worth checking out.
    Thanks guys! waytogo

I took a drive around mille lacs wma about a month ago and there were plenty of guys out bird hunting during the week. Aitkin county is were I do most of my grouse hunting but the numbers sure seem to be way down.

Four Brooks (or at least a portion of it) is leased to the MN Field Trial Association and gets used pretty regularly for training and trials, in the off-season, at least. I’ve never hunted there, but we trained there this summer.

We used to hunt the Solana State Forest in high school quite a bit. Lots of land there.

Eeelpoutguy and I hunted Mille Lacs WLMA about a month ago and saw as many other hunters as we did grouse…none. Only other person we saw was a guy setting up a stand for bow hunting deer. Agree numbers may be down but we just brushed the edge. There are some roads that you can take deeper into the area may improve your odds.
Was a beautiful time if not for this weird guy following me all the while. jester
