With the opener coming in hot (literally!). I thought I’d start a little thread on your opener to get some positivity flowing, and talking FISHING again. yay Feel free to post funny stories, things you are most looking forward to this year, annual traditions or things that should always be included in a good opener weekend!

For myself after fishing big waters (Leech and Mille Lacs) the last couple years, I am super excited to get out on a little lake that I have never fished before, and see if we can get into the eye’s. Also, this year will be year 2 in the tradition of gathering at the family cabin for opener. Good luck, and look forward to some good stories!

For the Sconny opener I will be working on chores at the cabin. Little to no fishing but for the Minny opener its buddies, beer, campfire, guns and hardcore fishing. We should all be wearing ATF hats!!
    Cant wait.

A couple beers to get the fish stories going is definitely part of our annual tradition toast

Let the sleepless nights begin. Look forward to this opener, it will be my second on Leech, and we will have some great company this year at the resort. It is much more fun not guessing if the ice will be out on opener or not. Looking forward to seeing all the walleye get caught, and the stories!

It’s only a lie if you can prove it to be false EPG! jester

Josh I will be spending a LOT of time on Leech again this year, what a GREAT body of water! We had a great opener there last year, I just hope I don’t end up regretting not heading your way this year!

This will be first of a few years where I don’t have a recital to attend. I’ll be taking full advantage, not sure what I’m doing.
Might have the boat all ready and if winds cooperate hit Mille lacs, or grab some waders for the day and hit miles of river shoreline, who knows!! So excited! And then Sunday I get to take the family out somewhere as well! Win win for both days woot

I don’t think you can go wrong this year, with the warm spring I’m thinking it should be good all over. And there are a lot of pigs in the Lacs!!!

Full Disclaimer: As an avid fisherman, I am an eternal optimist also. ;-)

Headed up to the hunting shack with friends for the first time on opener this year. Will be fishing vermillion, island reservoir, and smaller lakes around the Eveleth area. Beer, guns, fishing, campfires, more booze and a whole lot of food. Should be a blast as long as the misquito hatch hasn’t arrived by that time.

Here on mille lacs it is going to be all about catching and not keeping. It varies every year who is going to show up. The more the merrier. Might have to hit gull lake for a night recon mission or twitching during the opening week

The fishing opener now means to me, the thing in my tackle box I use to open bottled beers.

Been opening the season on Mille Lacs for as long as I can remember. This year no different! I expect we will get a few walleye for a fish fry and spend more time chasing smallies or pike. Looking forward to spending time at the cabin and hanging out around the camp fire.

Won’t get out on the opener, but hope to try some remote river fishing the weekend after. First time in the last 2 seasons that the water has been fishable and not running at flood stage.

There is a feeling of intense satisfaction in having miles and miles of river all to myself when I know the bedlam that will be going at lakes everywhere.

Reminds me, I need a new hose for my little 7.5 outboard. And it still kills me that they now cost $45. Ahhh progress.

I’ll admit I’ll miss heading up to the lake with the bros, especially since my brother built a new cabin since I left.

For the MN and WI opener, stay safe and good luck. And post your pics and stories.

Gonna be hitting a small local lake for the first time with girlfriend on the morning of the opener. It supposedly has trout so we’re going to be targeting them, but some gills or crappies will be just fine. The rest of the weekend is going to be spent tilling fields to get ready for corn planting
