Open water and access?

I am thinking about heading to the big pond tonight to drop the boat in and get a chance to open her up and play around a bit. Do any of you guys know how things are looking with the ice just going off? Are the accesses on the west side looking ok to drop the boat off in? I usually drop in at the access just north of the casino although the Garrison one isn’t much further away. Are there nets to watch out for? Are they marked well or are there areas I should stay away from to not risk wrapping one up in the prop?

Thanks in advance for the advise. I normally don’t get on this body of water this early but I would like to get the boat out on a larger lake and warm her up a bit to get ready for the season. I live by big lake and that is the only lake I have been on so far and it is kinda small to stretch the legs and let the big girl play.

Even though ice out has been declared, there are still sheets out there to look out for. See pic from east side web cam this morning at 9:30am!

Keep an eye out for nets too!

Thanks for the update, I appreciate it. I might just run to Minnetonka instead now. Looking to just do some cruising and site seeing, have a sammich for supper with the wife on the boat.

I don’t know how fast your boat is, but Minnetonka is one lake if you were going to get a ticket for going over the 50MPH you would have the best chance of getting a citation.

Just to preserve the supposed tranquility of Minnetonka the lake should be under a lake-wide no wake, idle only all year…including on the ice.

Pretty sure it’s still 40 during the day and 20 at night. Has been as long as I remember.

Anybody hitting any lake early be sure to watch for floating debris.

Minnetonka was a good choice. I enjoy just cruising around looking at the mansions and the ocean liners. That place is pretty insane. My boat will do mid 40s, which I rarely hit. I can plane out in mid to late 20s which is perfect for running with a tiller and honestly I spent most of the afternoon between 3 and 7 mph ;)
