Got an open seat or two for tomorrow if anyone is interested. I’m staying at castaways and may put in here in the morning. Depending on wind speed.

Send me a pm and I can meet you at the dock.

Would like to get another line or two in the water. Got leeches, crawlers, lead core, even a downrigger. Plan to throw everything at them.

I’ll keep an eye out for the center console you run. I’ll have a kid or two out with me the next few days.

I was only up there to fish today. Back to work for a 1/2 day on Friday.

Got on the water at about 6:30 and got off about 5:30. Fished solo and caught about 20 walleyes. Biggest was 26.5. Today was a day for experimentation. I brought a downrigger for the heck of it.

I threw everything at them. Jig/leech, cranks on the downrigger, spinner on the downrigger, spoons on the downrigger, lead core, spinner with bottom bouncer, jigging raps, jig/plastic. Almost everything caught fish.

The lead core out fished the downrigger only slightly. Fished anywhere from the middle of a flat to the basin to the transition. I’d have to say that the basin and the transition were best. Lots of fish on the flats but they would turn on for about 15 minutes then shut off for an hour or two.

Overall a great day. I dialed in a lot of new techniques and am happy to add the downrigger to the spread. If I get a chance to get a few more people in the boat with me.

Side note. About 2/3 of the walleye I caught today looked like post spawn females, pretty skinny. Some I’d consider emaciated. Seemed like everything under 20″ looks healthy and about 1/2 over 20″ appeared thin.

The one pictured above looked more healthy than most. In my opinion that fish is still a little thin.

But Matt, this was a Thursday and before a nice long holiday weekend. Next time please offer this when it fits in to my schedule and then you can have me in the boat with you. laugh

Good report however, and nice pike too. I was able to turn my phone upside down so I could recognize you. FWIW, I might possibly have an open seat (or two) in my boat Monday. I can try to post that here when I know for sure but I will be handicapped with this crappy Sprint plan that I committed to that has little or no service where I am north of Garrison. flame

I think I’m done posting pics in IDO. The were right last night when I viewed the thread.

I’d love to but I used up my fishing day yesterday. I try to do this during the week so the wife doesn’t feel like I left her at home.

I may try to get the wife up there next Friday for the likely conclusion of the 2017 summer walleye season.

Thanks for the report, and offer I’d love to take you up on that next time!I’ve been hearing this more and more. However, last time I was up as well as a report from a friend a couple days ago, saw tons of small minnows just under the surface. When I was up a couple weeks ago, they were everywhere from the flats to the points and rocks. Curious if you noticed that at all BigGill? Also, for supposedly having a small biomass (50% less than historically), those few fish in the lake must be covering a lot of ground for people to catch them in every part of the lake… whistling

Dammit! I thought it was open through the 7th. I guess I’m done with Mille Lacs, possibly for the year.

The walleyes are truly everywhere. I saw a report on the board at Johnsons Portside that basically said you can catch them using whichever method you prefer.

    Many are getting thin though.
