Had a closed MRI of shoulders summer 2019. Only need MRI of right shoulder torn rotator cuff- distal supraspinatus. Going to a different facility recommended by my doctor. They really have excellent reviews on Yelp, but none say how noisy. Will it be as noisy as a closed MRI? Shoulder hardly bothers me now. Doing prescribed exercises and all housework and yard work except pulling on lawn mower cord! Any tips? Thanks.

If it were me I would call the site that is doing the MRI and talk to a tech and ask them your questions. I am guessing different brands and the age of the unit will have an effect on the noise you will hear. Good luck hope it gets better, hard to fish with a bad shoulder.

I was in one of them last year for just under an hour getting chest mri. Don’t know how the noise wouldn’t bother you.

Same amount of noise but usually not as bothersome because it isn’t as closed of a space. Why are you getting imaging if it hardly bothers you anymore?

I’m usually given Beats and they ask what kind of music I want to listen to.

Last year an MRI at a different place revealed a complete tear of the distal supraspinatus. These tears are unlikely to heal, but it’s a slim possibility. Last week, I sam my doctor and showed him how well I’m moving. I said I’d like an MRI to determine the status of the tear before I attempt to start the lawn mower myself. However, the last MRI I got was verynoisy. I said to him, I’m mowing a very bumpy yard, lifting electric hedge trimmers over my head (I know that’s dangerous. Will prune them shorter.), etc. So, before I yank on that lawn mower cord, I and my doctor need to know what’s going on with the tear. I just need a comparison is an open MRI as noisy as a closed MRI? Yes, I will wear those little pink earplugs along with their headphones.

I had my original shoulder surgery repaired about 4 years ago. 4 days after surgery I was so stir crazy that I put an ice pack in my sling, put a spring clamp on the mower handle, pulled it left handed, and left-arm mowed the yard.

I can now use two arms to mow, but I still do the spring clamp and start it lefty.

    Cheaper than an MRI. )

Wow! You mowed the lawn 4 days after surgery! Starting the mower left handed might work for me. Thanks for idea. Glad your surgery was a success!

To be fair, I was mowing with a Toro Personal Pace, which is probably the easiest push mower to use one-handed.
The ice pack in the sling is the trick though, for anything outdoors if it’s warm. Keeps the heat rash at bay.

The surgery was a bandaid to get me by 20 years to replacement. It’s fubar, but at 36 they wouldn’t replace it.

Yeah but you got up off your … and mowed the lawn instead of licking you’re wounds.
