Per my post in the SPAM thread, I figure I’d give this recipe its own thread as aside from it’s polarizing formed-mystery meat ingredient, it just a great, easy-to-make crowd pleaser. if you’re a SPAM fence-sitter or maybe even you’re flat out repulsed by it, give these a try. It might change you life ) It works great as a complimentary ingredient when mixed with ground beef. My kids love these and they also work great snacking during a football game, etc.

    OPEN-FACED PIZZA BURGERS

1/2 lb. finely diced Spam (about 3/4 of the block)
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
    2 Tbsp. parsley
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. oregano
1 cup Pizza sauce (Whatever brand floats your boat)
    8 white hamburger buns

Brown the hamburger and while it’s cooking, dice up the SPAM into small chunks (similar to the consistency of canned corned beef hash). When the hamburger is done browning, add garlic powder, oregano, parsley and salt, diced SPAM and cheese. Cook until all cheese is melted. Add pizza sauce and simmer for 10 minutes or so. break the Hamburger buns in half and put them open-face up on a cookie sheet Place a spoon-full or two of the mixture on each bun. Place in preheated oven (375 degrees) for 10-15 minutes or until bun feels slightly crisp. Makes 16 open-faced pizza burgers.

    Enjoy!

Wow, my wife used to make open faced pizza burgers but not with spam, we used fried sausage. It has been years since we had those. Thanks for reminding me.

I have everything to make this tonight except one ingredient, and I’m not driving into town for the one ingredient today.

The Spam has already been sliced and cubed so no…that’s not the absent ingredient.

I’m confident it’ll come out a Blue Ribbon winner so stay tuned.

Look for my report during halftime of tonight’s Viking/Bears game. wink

As a Spam defender, I take offense to your offensive remarks. jester

One does not consume Spam straight up with salt coated atop.

Furthermore, Spam “Lite” has reduced sodium and saturated fat for those that chose to consume Spam with a healthy conscience. roll

However, as promised is my report on the above recommendation recipe.

Only thing missing was the hamburger buns. Having everything else I improvised with it served over elbow macaroni. Like a stovetop hotdish.

    Spamtastic… yay

Way to call the Audible with the pasta, Andy! I bet that would be good. I also tend to buy SPAM lite.

    Glad you enjoyed it!

Use velveeta for cheese, makes it over the top!

The FW says she doesn’t eat spam but she does eat bacon wrap spam with a drop of barbecue sauce on it.

    1st choice is Jalapeño Spam
    2nd choice is Lite Spam
3rd choice is all other flavors.

    It’s a beautiful thing.

I’m not trying to steal your hah thunder MR. ThunderLund, I’ve had the Pizza Spamburgers before and they are great!

If a person is in a hurry, Spam (lite for us watching our figure), onion and Velveeta all mushed together and spread evenly on a burger bun and broiled open face are pretty good too.

There’s also a variation with Spam, Velveeta and Pickles – served open-faced. I can’t remember the proportions, but I bet it’s hard to screw up if you just winged it. I’m sure there’s a recipe online somewhere.

May have to ditch the Crab Legs and Steak tonight and Make these instead! jester
