Was driving out to my hunting propety yesterday to get started on 4 acres of rock picking on a new plot. The “driveway” in to my property is essentially a field access road through a 1/2 mile adjacent landowner’s property.

So we get about halfway in and the road runs along the edge of a field and there standing right in the middle of the road is a tom turkey in full strut with 3 hens. Interesting, but then I instantly noticed that the whole flock was surprisingly still.

I pull up and look and there in the ditch just off to the side are 2 hunters in camo. Whooops. Sorry boys, I’m going to have to ask you to move your decoys off the road. They didn’t look terribly happy at me busting their setup, but that’s what you get when you set up decoys in the middle of a road. Regardless of how seldom traveled you think it is.

I felt bad that in the rush to move thier decoys and get out of there so I didn’t dusturb the area for long, that my dad was coming behind me. In about 15 minutes. Whoops. Moral of the story is it’s probably best not to set your decoys up in the middle of a road.

Years ago I was fishing a small lake north of Bemidji, working my way down the shoreline pitching jigs into the remaining green weeds. I was catching some fairly nice Bass when I noticed some ducks up ahead. When I got closer I realized those ducks were actually were decoys, and then I saw the guys in the weeds glaring at me. Ooops….

Some yahoo taxidermist put a full sized bear in front of his wooded lot last Sat in northern Wisconsin. I was eyeballing it for movement real close as I drove up…… doah grin

Those are funny stories! And it’s great that there are multiple uses the GREAT OUTDOORS can provide…think about it, pheasant hunters, duck/goose hunters, deer hunters, fisherman, squirrel hunters, snipe hunters and more could ALL use an area at the same time.

Sharing has never been more important. Learned to share from my mom early on and it stuck for the last fifty years. Thanks Mom!

Exactly, Scott. Really felt bad busting the guys setup, even though it was in an awkward place. I never expected anyone to set up decoys on a road, even if it was on the edge of a field. Nothing I could do, I’m not going to cut ruts in the field by trying to go around.

Hopefully they move off a ways into the field next time.

A while back during deer hunting I had to go #2. I got down out of my stand, walked to where it was safe and secluded. When I was done and adjusting my articles of clothing I happened to look up to see a hunter looking back at me from his tree stand 100 feet away.

    OOPS – Sorry about that.

Ohh man, I’m always worried that’s going to happen to me some day! Or even worse, I’m going to look over my shoulder and see someone’s trail cam pointed at me while I’ve got my pants down. redface

My wife’s cousin’s wife needed to take a quick tinkle while they were getting the boat in the water. She found a cozy spot near the wheel of the trailer, dropped’em and got going only to notice a camera aimed right at her. The camera records license numbers on trailers using the site and is monitored by the S’conie DNR. Whoever reviews those video chips got an eyeful.

On a sunny afternoon bowhunt many years ago – while sitting in a tree (without a stand), I see this truck driving down the road towards me. The guy proceeds to stop at the access road at the same small WPA that I was hunting on. First thought on my mind was – with my luck, this person is going to try and hunt in the same area as me. Sure enough, not only does the guy park and head into the same area as me, he starts to walk directly at me. My next thought was, what are the odds this guy comes to try and hunt in the same tree as me? Sure enough, he walks directly to the tree I’m standing in and starts to climb-up. Being the smarta$$ that I am, I decide to stand completely still and keep quiet. I believe I was about 18-feet up in that tree. Nevertheless, this guy keeps climbing without ever completely looking up. Finally, he reaches-up and nearly grabs my boot. It was at that point that I decided to say “HI.” I scared him so bad he nearly fell out of the tree. I think he had to go change is shorts after that one. I still can’t believe he never saw me until he almost touched my boot. To this day, I still catch myself laughing whenever I think back to that day.
