Should I take a chance on a nib onix 8 SI non-touch? Or go with a Helix 10 SI gen1? I know there are potential problems. Are these hardware issues? software issues? Power Issues? This is a lot of money for me so I want to make a good purchase with the best picture. I can get both for within $100 of each other. Thanks.

The Onix requires ALOT more power to run, so unless you have a brand new battery, you “could” experience issues…

I chose the Helix over the Onix because of the simplicity of the ui (less buggy) much faster OS boot time, and the quick disconnect cable harness. The 10″ screen is nice as well…

all the new units require good connections. According to humminbird website the Onix 8 uses 2.5 amps and a Helix 10 si mega uses 2.7 so they are about the same. I have onix and have no hardware issues, there were software issues , most of them have been fixed in the new 3.o software update
the new humminbird Solix 12 uses almost 4 amps just for compare

Get the Helix. At those dollars and the fact the Onix is a non-touch might as well get the 10inch screen.

I got the Onix 8 touch last fall on close out. At that time it was $500 difference with the Helix 10 G1.

The Gen1 Helix 10 uses about 1/2 the Onix power, Gen2 is different
