One-man Shelter/ATV Question

I find myself fishing alone more and more as my typical buddys’ home lives are taking up more of their time during ice fishing season – I need to find a one-man flip over (not interested in setting up a hub by myself on windy days) that can be towed behind my wheeler but I can also fit in the back of my truck. I already have an Otter Lodge, but it takes two people to lift it into the truck, especially with the enclosed trailer hauling the wheeler, attached. Does the Otter Hideout have the attachment points for the tow bar? Or is a Cottage light enough to lift into the truck by myself?

The hideout does not have the attachment points. All you need to do is buy the hitch adapter kit and then a smaller tow hitch.

The hitch adapter kit just bolts on.

On my hide out I sunk a eye bolt through and then had a straight 1 inch square tube I welded that had a hitch pin on each end.

I use a Shappell heavy duty hitch when towing my Hideout. Installed 3/8″ eye bolts in the sled rope holes with backer plates and nylon lock nuts. I use two 5/16″ dia. spring clips to make the connection between the end of tow hitch and the eye bolts on the sled. I use this method for towing my shelter because I didn’t have to drill any additional holes in the sled. When pulling by hand I clip a 20′ section of poly rope to the eye bolts.

Check La Crosse Craigslist. There is a large one man clam for sale all set up for towing.Looks like it’s been well cared for.

I have a 2-man Clam flip over and I built this ramp for loading and unloading in my Explorer.

This pic is with my Otter Hideout which I’ve sold and now just use my Cottage. It’s easy to load onto the rack and easy to throw into my truck when walking.

I fish out of an otter cottage. I am not a big or strong guy and can manage it alone just fine. I’ve lifted it loaded with gear in the back of my truck before but much prefer to just unload the auger and all the other gear first and lift into the bed then place the items back in. If memory serves it weighs 82#
