One man flip over

I am starting to think about getting a 2nd house. I have the Cabela’s 5 sided hub shelter which is great when I go out with the wife, friends, or my daughters. However, it is A LOT of house when I go by myself.

I would love to find a one man flip over but being a bigger guy (6’7″ 290) I am looking for input on larger one man flip overs. I have started doing some research and it appears that the Clam X1 and the Clam big mouth may be good options. Any other recommendations?

I am also wondering for those of you who have multiple houses, what do you have? Am I on the right track with having a bigger hub and a 1 man?

I have a two houses one two man insulated and a old one man clam that I use early ice or lake I have to walk into. I spent some time looking for a nicer 1 man house last year and never did make up my mind what I wanted. I like the houses you just sit and flip but at your height I don’t think you would have the head room.

The otter lodge is a nice “one man fish house” and if one or two people come along, you have room for them also

Stay away from any canvas that has rubbery coating on the inside, it will drip like mad and sometimes even peel off.

That is exactly what I do. I have my Otter Lodge hub for when I take my daughter or when there’s a group of us hole hopping so we can use it as a warning shack. But most of the time I will fish run and gun out of my Otter Hideout. I fished out of the Otter Cottage for quite a few years which is a big one man, I could actually fish 2 people out of it fairly easy but it was still small enough to move around by myself.

I have used my Otter Cabin for the last 7 years by myself, gives me all the room I need to haul out what I want and plenty room inside.

I’m 6’3″ 245 and i fish out of a clam kenai and i like it, there is more than enough head room for me, i’m not sure about 6’7″ though. I fish out of a one man mostly because everywhere i fish on the river is all walk on type places. If you are not the one physically pulling the sled then i would say maybe look at a little larger shack for the reasons stated above. However if you have ever drug a two man flip over on the ice with a good amount of snow on it, you don’t want to do that everytime you go by yourself.

Multiple houses is not unheard of by any means and is just like multiple rods, lures and every other piece of fishing gear you own. This year I’m running three different shelters, each with it’s own purpose.

Otter XT Hideout 1-man for early ice or for when I need to scale down and stay super mobile. Used about 15-20% of the time.

Otter XT Pro Cabin 2-man. I’ve used this size for 17 years and can handle loading, unloading and setting up with ease by myself. It’s a great size for 2-man and an extra roomy 1-man. This is my main shelter and may get used 70-75% of the time.

Otter XT Hub Resort 6-8 man which will get used when I have the whole family out on the ice or when I have a group of guys join me. There are time where I can see this being used as a central warming place. This will get used 5-10% of the time.

    Hope that helps.

I bought a kenai pro thermal this year. My main reason for this is weight (45#) I lift it and put it on the back rack of my 4 wheeler and it seems to be the ticket. I had a old 2 man otter and it was very good, but heavy.

I would seriously look at Eskimo Wide One Inferno. It is designed for us bigger folks that need room with the extensions for it to open up at the end of the flip over. lots of room and still lightweight.

The fully-insulated Eskimo® Wide1™ Inferno is an expandable wide-bottom one-man flip-style shelter. Its patented design gives anglers more fishable space, while maintaining the lightweight portability of a one-man shelter thanks to a telescoping front end. Its expandable front spreader bar allows for 32% more fishable area than any other shelter in its class. Once the front end is expanded, ice anglers can fish multiple lines and still have room for electronics and a heater.

I love my Wide 1 Inferno and would highly recommend… I did a ton of research before buying as well. The wind position is awesome as well.
