One lure fits all …..

You ever find that one lure catches pretty much whatever it gets near and in different colors? In one day and on one lure I’ve caught five fish species on one lure, used it on other days, in the same or in different waters and caught different species. Maybe more than the specific lure that was used is lure type/design and size.

I don’t expect to catch panfish on a 3/8 oz spinnerbait with large willow leaf blade as I do bass, but when it comes to smaller-in-size lures such as soft plastics, in-line spinners, small surface lures or shallow dive crankbaits, I pretty much can expect many fish types to strike them.

Granted, we all have favorites we shout are the best thing to be invented for a species, but is it true? The many photo examples I’ve posted on In-Depth Outdoors proves my point. At my time in life I can’t just fish for a species of a certain size but instead would rather have caught 60 vs 15 and what’s more catch them on lures I’ve made or modified. Surprise on the water is a wonderful and exciting thing –the more the better!

Smaller lures don’t mean smaller fish by any means considering the fact that when I’ve netted a 7.5 lb catfish on a 4″ plastic worm, the heart pumps many extra beats while I’m thinking, stay on that hook, line please don’t snap!

I love that feeling. It’s not a catch all all the time. Well it catches pan fish all the time and 20% of the time it catches other fish 100% of the time. I make a small jig that in the spring I have caught almost every species MN has to offer on it. It is so much fun when a big fish hits a tiny jig on an ultra light.
