Hey guys, I picked my boat/motor up from shop and decided to take it out and mess with new locator before our big trip. I can’t get the contour creation to show my contours. I have display on, I have set color shading and on map it shows boat with the little green circle around it but does not display anything else when I’m moving around slowly. I’m not sure if it’s cuz I don’t have any previously saved but on the Quickdraw main menu are to the left it says “no Quickdraw contours available”, so I’m not sure if that’s an issue or if it’s indicating none are saved. I’m gonna try calling customer support also but figured I’d throw this up here.

    Thanks

Being that it says depth source unknown I would make sure your transducer cables are hooked up properly. Are you getting a good depth reading when you are in just sonar mode?

The only other thing I could think of is to make sure that you have an approved micro SD card inserted into the unit.

First thing I thought of was the micro SD card as well. Assuming you were not able to get the 4.1 update, the Garmin site lists “Quick Draw Contour Fixes” under changes made in update 4.1. Not sure what the fixes are as mine worked well under 3.8.

With the issues you have had, I’d suspect something defective with this unit. Get Garmin on the line and work with them.

Pat-maybe I’m missing it but where does it say depth source unknown? I didn’t suspect a sonar issue because the standard sonar, down and side imaging seemed to be working normally. I’m sure sensitivity is off cuz it literally didn’t stop marking 40 fish at a time but it seemed to function normally. Also I did check to make sure it’s compatible.

Trent- I’m glad you noted that, I was sure since the update is so recent that the 3.8 units might have gotten some tweaks but I assumed it still worked.

I talked with customer support while out there for about an hour. Tho very friendly, unfortunately not much additional info other than what I was able to try myself. He noted its likely a defective unit it. I have a 30 day exchange policy through where I bought it so I’m going to get new one, swap head units and give it another whirl. I hope I can straighten all this out, I was really excited about the Quickdraw for our trip in 2 weeks to non mapped Canadian waters.

It says it on the picture you sent. On the left side. I’m bummed out you got a faulty unit. hopefully everything gets straightened out and you can enjoy using the new head unit in Canada soon.
