On the fence

Purchasing an LX-6 or FLX-28 tomorrow but am on the fence about which one I really want. If there aren’t any LX-6’s left I’m gonna get the 28 and be happy but if there is an LX-6 I think that’s what I want more. Someone sell one or the other to me and make the decision easier for me please haha.

If you buy the 28 I’m sure you’ll be happy with it and probably never think twice but once you’ve got the LX-6 you will realize how much you love having the ability to add in a vertical zoom and/or graph view allowing you to view 20-30 seconds of history.

Mechanical vs digital, is it truth or hogwash that mechanical has no delay and digital does?

In my experience, hogwash. If there is, its imperceptable to me.

And I agree with Will’s take on the FLX – I had one and its really nice, but having the option of graph, vertical, or traditional especially at the same time is a massive advantage.

I have an LX 6 and love it. I used an LX5 prior to that and my wife had an FL8. We sold the FL8 now she used the LX5. All I can say is the 6 is an extremely nice unit. I too use the graph and love that option. We did use my son’s LX9 two weeks ago while crib fishing by his house in Rice Lake, WI. I mention this bc you may consider the LX7, if you want to add a camera option down the road. Good Luck with your purchase.

It’s hogwash,,,,,,,,,,, I just fixed up my HDS7 to use instead of my FL18 that I’ve used for years. The HDS7 is just as responsive when in the flasher mode screen. The graph mode has no delay either, as viewed along the leading edge. If you wait till the info gets further across the screen, well yes, the delay is just because you waited for the info to get further across the display.
The HDS flasher display is no slower than a mechanical Vexilar.

I find it funny that 8 years ago, when I was using a Lowrance X67c Ice Machine, all the diehard mechanical flasher guys insisted that it had a delay when compared to a mechanical flasher, and now the digital units are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I was using “graph mode” long ago–no one wanted to listen to me! )

I was also told by the Bird guys at the ice show that there is a slight delay with the digital display. I think the only way you might notice this slight delay is if you go back and forth between the two units.

I run an LX-9 and for the sake of comparison, there really is no difference on display speed. If 1/1000th of a second is going to be the difference of catching fish or not, your gonna have a bad day. BTW – average reaction time for a human to see something and physically react is closer to 3/4 of a second on a good day. The digital display is a heck of a lot faster than you!

BINGO… I switch between using an HDS5 and a vex and YES I do notice a slight delay with the HDS. I’m not saying there’s a huge difference and it really doesn’t bother me but there is a delay compared to a vex.

LX-6 No doubt about it, almost the same price and you have many many many more options on the LX-6. I can promise you you wont be upset with it! And if they don’t have a LX-6 then just get the LX-7, the bigger screen is really nice especially if you fish a lot and look at it! Well worth the extra $100

And the digital/LCD is silent. Some Vexilars I’ve been around were very noisy.
