Hello, I would like some recommendations on area and techniques for fishing in the Omaha area lakes, without a boat.

What do you want to fish for? Not a ton of options but you can get into bass and pannies on some of the local lakes. Catfish on the river, especially if the level is low on the Platte.

Walnut creek in papillion used to be decent from shore but I haven’t fished it in years. You can walk the shoreline of almost the whole lake.

Thanks for the reply Matt. Pannies on the lakes. I haven’t tried Walnut Creek yet, but plan to this coming week. I haven’t fished the river yet, do you know of any good spots?

If you have access to a canoe or kayak I know all the local lakes are decent for panfish. I used to fish zorinsky and werspahn with some success. I’ll figure out some of the river spots. We used to fish the Platte down by Louisville but I can’t remember the exact spots. There are some little neighborhoods by Louisville on the river. They are semi private but usually have river access and gravel pit lakes. Pull up Google maps and follow it south out of papillion. You should find them.

Correction…we fished down by Springfield. Head south down 84th street where it turns to platteview road. South of platteview there are neighborhoods from there west to 132nd. Pull it up on satellite and you can see them. All have gravel pits and river access. Just be respectful I know some are private. Good luck.
