Im thinking about buying a 93 lund tyee2 with a 90 hp 2 stroke and was looking for opinions on this rig. I’m looking for a multi purpose boat that can handle bigger water.
    Thanks

Seems under powered with a 90. I’d pass on that one.

Wow!! I guess a 90hp is not enough on a lund tyee 2. I’ve never been in one, but I thought a 90hp would be ok.
    Any other opinions are welcome.

Didn’t the Tyee ll come in a 17 ft? How big is it?

First off, before we do the usual IDO bigger=better it would be intelligent to determine which length Tyee we’re even talking about here?

With a 90, my guess is we’re probably talking about one of the 17 footers here. If that is the case, a 90 2 stroke is plenty for this rig. A 90 will drive this rig at more than adequate cruising speed.

The two strokes don’t suffer from the massive weight bloat that came into play with 4 strokes and they have more bottom end punch, so you don’t need to upsize by 20-30 HP just to overcome the added fat and slow response of a 4 stoke.

Another reason why more isn’t necessarily better in this vintage of boat/outboard is that carbed outboards are thirsty. And bigger is even thirstier.

In this vintage of rig, I think a 17 with a 90 would be a very nice rig if you can find one in good condition.

I agree with Grouse. A 90 is plenty for that boat. Most were rigged that way from dealer I’m sure.

Thanks so much for your information. I already have two boats, but they are both River rigs and I can’t afford big $$$$ on a lake boat thats why I’m looking at older rigs.
    Thanks

I have decided to purchase the vintage 93 tyee 2 with the 2008, 90 hp optimax. I still have to inspect the rig, but have come to terms if it’s as nice as the seller says it is. The boat measures around 16 1/2 ft with a 79 inch beam.
    Thanks for your input.

My dad had an ’88 tyee with a 4 stroke Johnson 115. It got up on plane well and if I remember right it would gps at 38-42 loaded with a T8 kicker. That boat spent its entire life on Mille Lacs and did a great job.

Should be a nice rig for you! You left the part out about it being a 2008 opti. Big difference in a 93 to a 08 motor. My uncle has an older tyee 5.3 with a 90 mariner 2 stroke and it has been a very nice rig for him. I have seen it in some nasty stuff on lake of the woods and just like anything else use a little common sense and it always handled just fine.

Sorry about leaving out the 2008
    90 hp. Optimax.
I’m picking up the rig this Saturday. It’s good to hear your uncles boat handled some big water on lake of the woods. The only remorse I’m having is that I wish it was a 1750 or 1850 and not a 1650. From what I’m told pretty mint condition with basic electronics and older trolling
Motor. I’m paying $6200 and that’s with the 08 optimax.
What do u think of the price?
    Thanks

I think you made a good decision on your buy! Looks mint for being a 22 year old hull! Mine show more use then that just after 1 season.

X2 Boat and Trailer look like new!

Congrats… looks like money well spent. You’ll have a ton of fun in that boat, and not go broke doing it.

Looks like you got a great deal. A new graph/GPS and you’ll be set.

I know I’m the second owner. I’m pretty happy because I didn’t have to spend big cash on a nice boat. The hull is in mint condition.
