My ma came across a box of old records, 46 total, going through her belongings as she prepares for a move this spring. Seems to be some good ones in the box, see pics. She listed them on marketplace for “make offer”. Sounds like she would have taken a bag of peanuts for them but one of the fellows she was chatting with said they could be worth $400-$800 depending on condition. Anyone know a person could get them appraised or get an idea of what they are worth? Heck, I kind of want to track down an old record player and take a listen.

You’d either have to do a best offer situation online. Or, visit a physical store in the cities such as Cheapo, Electric Fetus, Hymies, etc. Mihht be worth a few phone calls first.

We were planning at staying in a nice hotel but got there later than expected and needed to get to Phoenix early the next day so we ended up at a budget 6.
I wake up the next morning and there’s frost, so being the newly wed gentleman I say “let me go start the car and get it warm”.
So I go start the car and walk back to the room. On the way back as I’m walking the 2nd floor concrete balcony I walk by this guy and think to myself, dang that looks like Bob Seager.
I get back to the room and tell my new wife, “hey I just walked by Bob Seager”.
She says “Sure you did because Bob Seager always stays at a budget 6”
I laughed and said I guess your right.
So we loaded the car and drove around to the exit and as we were leaving the parking lot I noticed a Rolls Royce parked by the front entrance and looked at the license plates — (SEAGER) — it what it said.January 13, 2023 at 11:16 pm #2173594Weedis, maybe you were conceived to one of those records. Knowing your folks, that’s a distinct possibility.
January 14, 2023 at 3:18 am #2173605I have a decent sized vinyl collection. I have purchased new and used vinyl recently. Used vinyl can range from and few dollars to $75 or more depending on the artist and the condition of the vinyl and jacket.

Ha, if I were to guess it would have been Willie Nelson.
Good story eelput and good info sandbar.
St. Cloud used to have an electric fetus but closed many moons ago. Might have bring them to a cities store when I’m down for work for her or just see what she can fetch on marketplace.
January 16, 2023 at 12:12 pm #2174028I collect old records. Have hundreds.
For me the “value” is the cover, not the vinyl, for others, exactly the opposite. Most of mine are on the walls of my “office’ downstairs and I collect the ones I loved from high school. THe album art is what appeals to me. Don’t like names or words scribbled on them. I shop mostly at Know Name records on Portland and Tune Town in Mankato. Great selections of “good” albums and decent prices.
Not trying to be rude but from the looks of them I would say most stores would give you .50 cents to a couple bucks each , max.
Just my humble opinion.
Pretty cool though, I’d love to look at them all.
My sons college crap is in the way but you get an idea for a couple of the wallsAttachments:

You can not play the Cover. Some people just love the sound of music played on Vinyl. But you are correct, the cover does play a big part in the price.
Great collect on some great covers there by the way. That is way cool.
I would take them to a store that specializes in old vinyl records. Keep in mind though that these places also have to make some money off selling them so their offers may be lower than someone may be willing to pay direct for them.AK GuyPosts: 1437January 16, 2023 at 12:30 pm #2174039The Woman Lake Inn ceiling was a patchwork of album covers from the 60’s and 70’s. I loved grabbing a burger and beer after fishing and staring at the ceiling.
dirtywaterPosts: 1633January 16, 2023 at 12:38 pm #2174044Get in touch with Kris at south metro records in Burnsville mn if that location is at all convenient for you. Last fall I posted my collection on fb marketplace and he put together a really strong offer, provided a spreadsheet showing potential values for all records in various conditions, and basically offered me an average. He came to my doorstep, inspected a few, and put a wad of cash in my hands. I could’ve made a bit more selling them individually but that would’ve taken months. Kris was just getting his shop up and running and was looking to build inventory so I felt I got a better price than if I had taken them to cheapo or electric fetus or another more established shop.
January 16, 2023 at 12:40 pm #2174045I have a box of vinyl laying around too. Much of it predates me. I looked them up a few years ago and found out Im not rich so I put them all back in storage.
January 16, 2023 at 12:43 pm #2174047I think you need to get a record player, and follow Seger’s advice, “Take those old records off the shelf, I’ll sit and listen to ’em by myself, Today’s music ain’t got the same soul, I like that old time rock and roll…”
ThunderLund78Posts: 2698January 16, 2023 at 1:40 pm #2174085There’s a record store in downtown Shakopee called Ramble On Records. My brother in-law knows the owner and he runs this place purely as a passion project. I don’t know all the details but he apparently has made his money through other ventures and now has the time to do this with out having to be too worried about profit except to keep the lights on. I’m sure he’d be very fair in letting you know what you could get for them. It’s a really cool store.
January 16, 2023 at 7:14 pm #2174187No offense taken Umy, always folks on here that know a thing or two. That’s a sweet collection by the way. I really do want to take a listen to some of these. Just got to track a record player down. Also, if someone really wants to take a look at them or listen I am in the Edina area often for work. Thunderlund, I will keep that in mind.
January 17, 2023 at 9:52 am #2174293Weedis, as I said I just love the covers and the memories they evoke – that’s all for me. Brings me back to great times. I have a kick ass stereo with a nice turntable and do listen to albums on occasion. I think the sound IS better but that’s just me. I have several that are Original Master Recordings – you hold them up to the light and they are translucent – pretty cool and you hear NOTHING but music. They were the same cover (The Clapton Slowhand cover in my picture is one – they were about 3X the price of a regular album in the 80″s)
Always looking for replacements to some I have that ARE written on that I can’t find anywhere. I ordered the QUEEN – News of the WORLD from an overseas shop?! Paid about $32 after shipping but you just cannot find that and my original was crap.
need a new Queen Night at the Opera ( someone’s name on it) and a BOSTON THird Stage – mine is terrible. I also need a Led Zeppelin 4 ( Sticks on the cover)
Things like that I just like browsing for and looking at. The smell of the HEAD SHOP ( KNOW Name records) brings back great memories! I have the ones I need on a list on my phone so if an opportunity arises, I am ready.
Someday when the youngest gets his crap out of here I’ll post all the walls of albums.
If you have a list I may be interested in some of them.January 17, 2023 at 7:25 pm #2174446When I get a chance Umy I will take an inventory and send them to you
January 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm #2174774My ma decided to sell the records for an Andrew Jackson, apparently she just wanted them gone.
January 23, 2023 at 9:32 am #2175475That would be my wife too…..
