Another, Not a good year to start a tuna boat navigator season. I did not know a boat that size could go that far northAs the Stillwater Lift Bridge was lowering Friday afternoon, a northbound boat hurried to get under in time.

    It didn’t make it.

At about 5 p.m., the 37-foot boat rammed into the St. Croix River bridge, which nearly sheared off the upper deck of the boat. The collision forced the shutdown of the bridge, as the state Department of Transportation determines if the bridge was damaged. The bridge was reopened Friday night.

The Washington County sheriff’s office reported that a Stillwater woman riding in the boat was hurt in the collision and treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. The driver, a resident of Marine on St. Croix, was not injured.

The sheriff’s office said that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.

You cannot fix stupid. Let’s hope the driver of the boat pays a hefty fine and any repair costs

I’m not trying to be snarky, but. . . it’s a fully operational lift bridge. I’ve seen bigger boats than that north of the bridge.

doah I missread this article and others. The driver was from Marine on the St.Croix . Somehow, I jumped the gun on destination. My bad.

I kinda feel sad to see damage to a classic boat like that.

I can’t even imagine the pain. And knowing it was self-inflicted would make it that much worse.
