I cannot find the post for the okuma spinning reels that were used along with the i fish pro’s while ice fishing. They have some kind of set up that allows the line to pay out without using the drag, also would like to know what size to use for northern strictly through the ice, I don’t want some monster reel. Any help would be great, also looking for a medium heavy rod to match, I’m not going too spend s arm and a leg on a dead stick. Just something with a good backbone

Yep, ordered mine last week. Gander has the size 20 for $40 online.
August 29, 2016 at 2:57 pm #1636492Thanks, its the avenger abf, I’ll have to see one in person before I decide. Any suggestions on a mid range rod ?
August 29, 2016 at 9:39 pm #1636569I used the size 40 for northerns last year, it’s just a bit bigger than a 1000 series Shimano

I linked to the thread I think you’re looking for here >>> https://www.in-depthoutdoors.com/community/forums/topic/ido-fishing-reels/
The photo I uploaded shows the Okuma ABF20 in comparison to a Sedona 500.

August 30, 2016 at 7:53 am #1636592Thanks James, that was the link I was looking for,i really love using the i fish pro’s they are a blast, but like others I’ve had the wind blow the line off my spool and these certainly sound like the perfect answer, any suggestions on a rod that won’t break the bank ? Thanks Again!

What’s your budget and what species will you be targeting?
August 30, 2016 at 11:03 am #1636648I would like to keep it under a Hondo. This is going to be used for northern

I just ordered 6 LTP’s (Lake Trout Precision) at 38 inches from Tuned Up that will serve as my iFishPro rods this coming winter. With regular ceramic guides they’re under your budget cap at $89 (if memory serves) and they’ve got the muscle needed to handle any laker or pike that swims. I watched Joe Walsh absolutely manhandle a 51″ sturgeon using that rod this last winter so big pike, etc., won’t be an issue.
August 30, 2016 at 12:16 pm #1636674Thanks again James! I will be contacting them soon, I’ve read good things about them on this site
August 30, 2016 at 1:13 pm #1636706Well I went on there website and didn’t see any LTP rods
Give them a call. The LTP exists. I’m sure the TUCR guys just haven’t put it on their website yet.
August 30, 2016 at 1:32 pm #1636711LTP does exist. We will get them back up online shortly. Just give us a call.
38″-42″ are my favorite for the IFish Pro. The are super durable rods for this style of fishing and the backbone is incredible.
August 30, 2016 at 2:24 pm #1636724James, I talked to Adam at TU and ordered 2 rods thanks for your help, especially paying for them, lol, he was very pleasant to deal with. I should have my rods in about 2-3 weeks as they are busy filling orders for some major stores that will carry their rods. Thanks Again !

Thorne Bros also makes a heavy duty ice rod called the Professional.
They make a fiberglass version which will stand up to just about anything and also will be a bit cheaper as glass is normally cheaper than graphite.
In my opinion, a rod that sits on a tip up need not be sensitive, same for a lake trout rod. The thorne rods run about $60, which saves you a bit of cash if you’re into that sort of thing.

You’re welcome. John’s great to deal with.

Just curious, how does this rod differ from your “Deadstick” Ice Rod other than length?

The LTP is a more powerful blank. I’d rate the Deadstick as a medium light and the LTP a medium heavy.
