Anyone looking at possibly getting the new 500 or 1000 Okuma Baitfeeder reels for dead sticks this ice season I did a little overview to try to help out!

Hey Dave, I just bought a ABF 500, that’s what TUCR sold me when I was in their store matching it with a PN. Not sure why, I just went with it. I’ve yet to try it out since it’s still early in the ice season.

I suppose my question though is how the Avenger series differs from the Ceymar (other than price). All I hear about is the Ceymar, and you’re the first I think that’s mentioned the Avenger.

Except of course TUCR that sold me the Avenger.

    Thoughts?

They paired an Avenger baitfeeder reel with a Precision Noodle? That seems odd. It’s not the regular Avenger?

I know, that’s what I was wondering. The price was discounted so I didn’t protest, but yeah a BF reel wasn’t what I would use on a PN.

I adjusted though as I packaged the ABF with a Commander rod I already had that I’ll setup as a dead stick.

I think a bait feeder could match up well with a PN as a deadstick for perch or crappies. Most are not using their PN for that though, so it’s a somewhat unusual pairing.

I built a rod on a DH Al Dente last year and really liked it as a walleye deadstick when paired with an Avenger 20 baitfeeder.

I am pretty sure the Ceymar had different internals but don’t quote me on that! So if it has different bearings or a better drag system I could see that being why it cost more?

I would say for the same reason I got them and that is for smaller walleye perch and crappie fishing it could actually pair well with the PN?
