This past weekend we hit west lake Friday and Saturday before heading back to College. We started off Friday fishing for bluegill. It took some moving around before finding some on the edge of a weed bed. We fished this spot the rest of the day and ended up with a mixture of 45 perch and bluegills. Usually we do not keep this many fish but in a few weeks we are having a big fish fry and need some fish for that.
On Saturday we went back to this spot and started catching fish right away. Around noon we decided we had enough fish for our big fish fry and decided to go out to deeper water and look for some bigger fish. We headed out to a few spots that we fish in the summer away from the other shacks. After looking around on some different dropoffs and rock piles we found a spot that there was some walleyes and jumbo perch. We only had time to fish this spot for a few hours but we caught 11 perch that measured 10-11.5 inches and 2 walleyes. One was 14 inches and the other was 15.5 inches. We seen about 12 to 15 other walleyes that we didnt get to bite. Almost everytime we seen a walleye there was perch by our bait and they never gave the walleyes a chance to bite. A school of 4 or 5 perch would come in and there would always be a walleye behind them. The walleyes were very active as long as there wasnt a perch down there to get to our bait first. It was a good weekend with the buddies before we all headed back to college!!
