ok going to take a step up in the auger category, help me out, my choices are strikemaster 40v, Milwaukee m18 with nils auger or whatever, and the Milwaukee mud slinger with the nils or whatever auger…. help me decide. I like the fact that the m18 is very light but not sure how it performs, do not want to spend over 500.00, I think I can get the m18 with one battery and charger and nils 8.0″ for about 425.00 at fleet…who has the best prices…I may wait till feb. no big hurry… I use my hand auger just fine…

    thanks,
    Gary

Nils are fast, but you’ll get a cleaner hole with Strkemaster, depends what is more important

Yesterday scoping out the ice there was a lot of drill setups on the ice. I’d lean the drill direction especially if you already have the drill.

I wouldn’t ask what others here think. You’ll have to check for yourself. jester

Last night a member here on IDO (you) told several people to “check for yourself” when they asked questions…I would suggest you do the same to find out who has the best prices for the setup you needed help deciding on. Happy Holidays

If you wait till February, you will have maximum time to check for yourself.

If I were going to buy an auger right now it would be the Strikemaster 40v.

Strikemaster all the way, do not look back. I love mine, selling my gas auger for sure.

I like the drills, I can carry a spare in my fanny pack. Never needed it, but it fits and spares give me a warm fuzzy anytime i spend over $200 on vehicle gas.

I run a K-Drill 8″ as of last season and this season. I paired it with a ridgid octane, Nice and Light set up for walking miles of back waters, does fine drilling 20 holes in 18 inches of ice on one battery, I typically dont drill more than twenty a day, so I cant give feed back on drilling more than 20, I do have spare batteries, but if I cant find fish in first 20 holes, I will go home, and try tomorrow> I do not have experience with the life flight yet, but plan to get a 6″ to replace my 6″ Lazer.

I would go with a strikemaster lite flite and a Milwaukee mud mixer.

I just got a kdrill this season and got it out for the first time today. It is really solid. I got the clam plate with it (reminder needs an adapter) and an m18 Milwaukee. Will see how it works long term but so far really like it.

I’ve had my 8 in K-drill, clam plate and M18 for three years now and cannot think of what I would do to improve it. Great performance, lightweight, no issues and I got a heck of a drill to use for other projects during the off-season. I got the m18 and three 12AH batts from CPO for under 300 and the auger for about 200. Unless a guy was obsessed with drilling holes all day (I am not), I cannot understand why anybody would use anything other than electric these days.
