No doubt. It depreciates the minute you drive it off the lot. Might as well enjoy it.

I hang out by auto dealerships but I have yet to find one to purchase at this depreciated price. Let me know when you find one for sale. yay

Vehicles are all expensive, but once you buy a new one the second you leave its not worth that anymore. Try returning one or trading it back in 4 days later.

    Never understood this thought process.
If I pay $100K for a truck I’m going to drive it everywhere, I’ll drive it 100ft to my mail box and back
    and
with no seat covers, wearing fancy jeans.

you lost your credibility once you started wearing bedazzled jeans

Bought my truck and my wife’s SUV with under 10k miles on them for significant discounts compared to new new.

I never stated that they do not depreciate. I just never seen one for sale let’s say in the first week is was driven off the lot to take advantage of the depreciation.

That would be pretty stupid for them to get rid of it that quick./ I did buy a service loaner back in 2017 it was 15k off with all incentives. Had 3500 miles on it.

I agree with you on this but my comment was addressing the statement of depreciation the minute you drive it off the lot. The minute you drive off the lot is basically true and I have heard many people say it. But has anyone ever encountered someone trying to sell a vehicle that quickly, let’s say in the first week after they purchased it new? I even used a emoji to try and imply some humor intended with my comment.

So, if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it then did it make a noise?

Yes, I have seen this resell a car immediately after buying) on multiple occasions. I also work in an office that sees about 40-100 vehicle transfers a day. The minute after might be an exaggeration, but I have seen alot of people buy a car with cash in an out of state lot for lower than regional average retail, drive it home, say they don’t like it, and take the loss with someone else getting the benefit of the reduced value, and the previous owner not being out as much because the deal they got out of state.

Talk to a car salesman. I know a couple and when I talked with them once about it(5or6 years ago) it happens occasionally (every few months). People get purchase regret, realize it’s too big/small, too much money, etc. The dealership buys it for a discount (around 10-15% off) and realists it for a slight discount from MSRP. Look for 1 owner vehicles on the lot with less than 500miles, those are likely regret purchases. Some dealers now even have a return policy to target these buyers.

When oil fields were going nuts and new fracking was a daily sight, contract employees came and went like water through a dam. With ridiculous salaries and perks, it was very common to see them buy a truck, work 30-180 days and gone. Between housing and vehicle allowances, they didn’t care about early termination of a lease or selling a truck at 10K or more loss. I miss those guys, we bought a bunch of trucks from them. The dumb ones just left the truck in the driveway and let the bank repo them. Sometimes a good deal, but dealers would snatch them up at auction. But the OP would sometimes get sued for the recovery value difference, so was just better to do a turn/burn sale and eat the loss.
