Or, more commonly known as little penis truck. Borrowed a vehicle from work because the Dodge is down again. Anyways, drove about 700 miles, mostly interstate.

Chev 1500 gasser, about 5” lift kit. At least they took the ridiculous wide ghetto tires off and put “normal “ tires on it. It handles like crap, has crew cab and about 4-1/2 foot bed. I needed to load 12’ long material in it jester jester jester rotflol rotflol rotflol rotflol I think there is more cargo space in a station wagon.

What is the purpose of these things??

Agreed they are about worthless. Maybe haul some groceries if you have a cover on it.

12′ long material? Sounds like you picked the wrong equipment for the job. Is this the equipment’s fault? I don’t use ice rods when I am fishing open water from my boat and then complain about the fishing rod that I am using. grin

I guess you need it spelled out syllable by syllable.i stopped at a vendor along the way and I picked up a case of 14” cut off blades and 6 welding blankets. While I when I was there, one of my leads called and asked me to add thirty six steel studs that are 12’ which made me crack up laughing because that wasn’t happening.

Sorry you lack in equipment. I have about 25-30 ice rods that multi-purpose for open water. Couple of my 42” crappie rods are incredible trout rods. But narrow minded people don’t think outside the box.

So I still wonder what the purpose of these trucks are. I see so many lifted trucks that barely see a parking lot let alone off roads that require increased clearance. And the 4-1/2 foot bed is so limiting. I’m trying to see the uses and drawing a blank

I’d say it’s to pick up the ladies, but I’ve never seen one with a female passenger. Maybe they are for picking up dudes?

JEEEEZ… that was quite the snappy reply Randy, that must have gotten under your skin. You didn’t specify in your original post so I can see why net man said that! Why does your work have a truck like that anyways?

As far as the gargantuan grocery getters, yeah way over the top. People who drive them definitely are compensating for at least something…

About 90% of people use their truck as a daily driver and not to tow/haul.

To each their own I say.

A bit sensitive today? I thought that I was reading something written by a different member like walleysf or some thing.

Lacking equipment? Now you are being a comedian.

There surely is a purpose for crew cabs. The paved world was not designed for a crew cab with 8′ box. Maybe your are thinking too much outside of the box to answer your own question.

And I thought that you were trying to be funny with your original post but your follow up looks like you are serious. My apologies.

Majority of folks don’t need that capacity.

Decent amount of folks like the security during winter a truck gives them and their family.

And a small portion out of all that likes the flash. Small percentage, but multiplied to a large population gives us what it is.

Any such truck not driving in states that see a snowy winter has a ding-a-ling equivalent to a cat.

    If it fits, it ships.

I see plenty of s*** working side gigs with contractors and putting in some time at the local lumberyard.

12’ stuff in a 5.5’ box is goofy, probably unsafe, and also fairly routine.

Most trucks you see are 4 door, one driver, no passenger, box empty driving up and down the highway. Trucks nowadays sit up so high without these “leveling kits” that you need to be 7′ tall to get anything into or out of the box. Some people just have to drive a truck for what I’ve never understood?

Well these days the average 1/2 ton gets good millage so why wouldn’t you want that for a daily. I haven’t owned a actual car since I was 16. Besides a couple of fast rides. I’m in the ballpark that I need a 8 ft box 3/4 or 1 ton for what I do with my truck but that’s not average. I think 5 ft box is silly and worthless but that’s my opinion for my personal use. I couldn’t care less why others own what they own. It’s called watching your own bobber. At the same time I have many uses for my HD truck i am also in the search for a mid 90s to early 2000s Ford ranger with a 4.0 v6. I have just as many uses for that little truck as I will for my big truck.

    Love the pic bb.

I can’t find my picture of the opposite. It was a 1 ton 4×4 crew cab dually with a 8 ft. box.
Guy had a 3×5 trailer hooked up with a push mower on the trailer. The hitch was so high that the back of the trailer was about 3 inches away from the pavement. doah
It looked like trailer and mower should have been picked up and put in the box. It looked funny going down the highway. rotflol

    Numb is more like it.

Parking lot engineers design for mid size cars like Camry, trucks aren’t even a thought. I’ve owned mostly 8’ beds ext/crew cabs so even 6’ bed at times is small. But then for me, work, farm and pleasure requires a large payload.

I’ve driven jacked up trucks most of my life out west and places where they are needed. Knowing 90% of the parts wear out prematurely, if you don’t need, why???

Anyways, as much as I look for reasons I don’t see it. Probably the kids of parents that bought AMC Pacers

    This x100.

I had a truck with a lift in high school for a bit. My dad laughed at me when I started having to replace some parts. That thing quickly went down the road with some other 16 year old.

IT wouldn’t be so bad, but they put street tires on them with like a 2″ sidewall and no grip. You can’t get a boat up a concrete boat ramp with those tires. When I was a kid in the 90s we all had jacked up trucks. I know one kid that had a lifted AMC. I had the biggest tires I could fit on my 1980 Ford Granada. But we would also go drive around in the night on minimum maintenance roads and go mudding in fields.

To me it comes down to main purpose of use. My buddy can not understand why I’d give up box space for extra cab space. I tell him it’s because I haul people way more often than material. He’s a farmer so he is the total opposite. Different strokes for different folks.

Exactly BC. Cars/trucks aren’t utilitarian for everyone. If they were, most people would drive 4 door sedans.

I like cars…have a few of them along with the truck. If I’m going to spend time driving I want to enjoy what I’m in. Like you and I mentioned…to each their own.

I like the vision and safety of a 4 wheel drive truck. I don’t put much faith in others seeing me out on the roads.

The price of trucks has gotten to be insane these days, so I don’t like putting any unnecessary miles on my truck because I don’t want it to depreciate any faster than it already is. I will opt for my car unless I “need” the truck for something. I got a nice little grocery getter corolla 5 years ago for $6k and that is my daily driver unless I need the truck for hauling/clearance/towing/hunting/dog training etc. The corolla is cheap to own/insure/fix, gets great gas mileage, and is reliable. Not to mention I can fit in any parking spot and not have to worried about getting doored. I’ve avoided putting almost 40k miles on my truck by having this car. Big trucks are great but I don’t need to drive mine everywhere.

For me it starts with the cab. My Chevrolet extended cab was getting a bit cramped as my kids aged. I do quite a bit pulling of a boat and wanted more room in the back seat. 2002 and crew cabs were not yet popular and the only Chevrolet crew cabs that I seen available had 6.5′ boxes which would not fit in my garage at the time. I switched to Ford and owned my first crew with a 5.5′ box.

For me the extra space to travel with 3 or 4 people in comfort was more important than the additional space that a longer box allowed me to haul. Anything that was too large for my 5.5′ box just went on a trailer. And taking 2 or 3 of my ATVs on a little family outing no matter how hard that I tried was not going to fit in a 8′ box.

I no longer own a Ford but a crew with 5.5′ box still fills my needs. Still owning multiple ATV’s and now a side x side a trailer is still required (or possibly 2) so a longer box does not fill my needs. Now I have a longer garage but yet do not desire to go to a longer box on my crew cab. Now if you would change the world to build parking lots and parking garages to fit a crew cab with a longer box then maybe I would consider revisiting what I drive.

I have many friends that own trucks and boats. If we choose to take one persons boat out versus another does not dictate on whos truck that we use. Most of my friends do not own a crew cab. But when we take 3 or 4 people my crew cab is always volunteered to tow because of the comfort of the additional space in the rear seats. On hunting trips the same thing applies.

Personally my daily driver is not a truck. I prefer the approx. 50% increased fuel mileage that I obtain with one of my cars. However you might see me on the road with the truck not hauling anything for many reasons. And if I do not have multiple people in my truck that day and you see me then my apologies if this offends you.

Now should we discuss toppers, tonneau covers or why some guys decide to back in to a parking spot versus driving in forward?
