I’m going to use 14 gauge wire called many boat dealers the locator company and advise on here. The wires that are on the locator are thin wires do I cut the wire as close as I can from the factory wiring or just run the wire to the existing factory wiring? For clarity 3 feet factory wiring plus 17 feet of 14 gauge wire or cut close to factory say leave 1 foot then 19 feet of 14 gauge wire? I wish wiring was easy to figure out.

Leave the locator factory wiring intact and use your heavy guage wire from locator connector to the battery.

I don’t think the extra 2 feet of factory wire matters at all as long as you are sizing the rest of your run correctly.

The only place that I want to eliminate all possible resistance is in wiring bilge pumps. ANY resistance issues with bilge pumps getting their full required power is a potential safety issue. I’ve seen factor installed bilge pups that were pumping at less than 25% of their rated capacity because the boat builders cheap out and install them with undersized wire.
