I just started getting into ice fishing this year. I got into it late last year. I’m from Wisconsin and was wondering how many tip ups along with poles can I have on the ice? Does the 2 pole/hooks in the water rule apply to tip ups and poles? I see people out there with 2-3 tip ups and also in there shelter with a pole. So I’m just curious. Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure it’s 3 lines per person in the water. So yes, the rule applies to both.

3 lines in Wisconsin. And they can have treble hooks.

You can use three lines or hooks at one time but it doesn’t matter how many extra rods or tip-ups you have on the ice. If you are using those perch or crappie rigs that have two separate hooks on them then those count as 2 lines.

3 lines. 2 tip-ups and a jig pole, 2 jig poles and a tip-down, blah blah. W/walleye, I typically run two tip-ups and hole hop with a jig pole. Or the same with tip-downs and crappie. You get the idea.
3 tip-ups out, and jigging in the shack is illegal. Now, I have kids, and they don’t need a license yet; they’re also allowed 3 lines each but we can only keep my license’s limit of whatever. I rarely keep a limit of anything even if I can catch it, but it keeps it fun for them to have a 8 or 10 tip-ups out and spend the day chasing flags while Dad trudges along behind re-baiting and re-setting. roll

Rev… I don’t have kids, so never looked, but how’s that work? A 14 year old can go and keep a limit… no license. A brother could as well. Cause you are with them, then it cuts off at one limit between three of you? Doesn’t sound right.

Again, Never looked, just reading, and it sounded odd.

    Rev,

Be careful re-baiting all of those tip ups. You are tending lines and if you bait over 3 you are in violation.

I know that the warden would have to be a hard ass to fine you, but I was warned once when my father and I were fishing crappies. He was pulling the fish in on Tip Downs while I went behind him, I was putting on new minnows and setting them back in the stand.

He warned both of us, I needed to only tend my 3 and my father could only tend his 3.
