Heard about it this morning. The two guys were lucky sounded like one was in the water for a little bit.
Anyone know where that was at? Same location as the trucks that went in last weekend?
What’s an approximate cost for a blunder like that for the vehicle owner?

kind of looks like methodist point?

According to this article posted in Feb 2020, the Brown County’s Sheriff’s Dept indicated it costed about $10,000 to remove a vehicle that has gone through the ice. Just like everything else, I’m sure that cost has gone up since 2020.

Straight across from Maiden Rock middle of the channel
You for real or just trying to slow down some weekend traffic ? Anything’s possible I guess .
Was there today and watched. I was a couple hundred yards from the channel and on 10 inches clear 3 cloudy but Monday i fished the edge of the channel and 5 clear 3 cloudy. This was in the middle of the channel just up from the point.
Oh and by the way Monday there was a truck parked next to me. Some people like livin on the edge. Some pay for it.

Yikes . Good info . Crazy people drive pickups on it .
how does that recovery rig work? does it have wheels or was he just busting ice?
Just busting ice from what i could see. Sheriff was also out there on an airboat.
I took an old trailblazer out in that very area many times (long before the crowds and chaos of today) without issues. I’d drill and measure periodically and knew where the current generally pushed through. I’d wait for 15-16” of ice for a buffer. There’s nowhere near that this year. There are spots right now that’d swallow a small wheeler even in mid January that people are completely oblivious to.
The crowds are bringing people who don’t understand rivers or what depth changes and points due to ice as current it is deflected even hundreds of yards away. Another big issue is the measuring of ice. If it’s not clear, it’s not worth much. My last time out there early before the circus now with a tape measurer I had 9”, but after careful inspection 5” of it was clear and the rest compacted crap.
This sounds morbid, but I’ll honestly be shocked if that stretch from the mid point of the channel to the shore near point no point and methodist doesn’t take someone’s life. There’s that many people flocking to an area they do not understand.
Atv only for this guy. I’ve seen ice conditions vary day by day and never venture across the channel by the point.
2 different YouTubers posting videos of the bite , they’ll be twice as many people as last weekend .
What I noticed out there was that yes theres “8” of clear dark ice but if you stopped your drill half way through the cut that the water would come up the hole with still 4-5” of ice to drill. Not good way out there. This was pretty much main channel, between the bouys. My guess is once weekend hits they’ll be more unfortunately. My best advice is don’t go past the crowds from either side.
FWIW my understanding of MN insurance (and presumably WI and elsewhere) is that if you have comprehensive coverage — and I’m guessing most of these nice trucks falling through the ice do — it is 100% covered including any extraction costs.
It would really suck to be the broke dude in a $3K beater with no comp insurance, because you are liable for extraction fees regardless, which as somebody noted above can easily cost $10K plus. Either way I’m glad I travel by foot!

no need to post this $hit. sometimes you need to shut your mouth for the sake of the fishery….too late i guess…..that poler vortex should shut them off in your defense.
