Hello everyone! Im trying to get the girlfriend on some exotic ice species. We were given an opportunity to head up to the Leech Lake area mid January. Our goal is to find some Pout or tullibees. Can anyone give me any insight? I know its not burbot breeding season but Im curious to see if it worth the shot. Shes never seen them and after watching some of the IDO videos, she is intrigued to see one in person.

Walker Bay, at night, on breaks from shallow flats to deep water, fish on the bottom with heavy GLOW and rattle spoons with a couple whole minnows and a minnow head or two for some fresh cut scent, pound the bottom often, hold on and enjoy the fight.

Many years ago I we slayed them out on LOTW. That was mid february so I think they were on the spawn. Wasnt sure if they are an easy target in the lull of January or not. Not really familiar with Leech but I have Navionics and a Marcum so ill find them.

Ok, tullibees are not all that exotic, just a silver fish. Pout? Yea, there out there?.?
So you’re trying to get your GF on some exotic ice species?
If she is intrigued to see one (or many more), you might want to pencil in the Eelpout Festival in Walker February 23-26. I know later than your time in January but if she or you? want to see exotic species on ice, this is world renowned! Check it out..
