Not ice fishing but fishing accommodations just the same…atleast 10 years ago…
I once came across the same such abandoned scene and it was almost beyond bizarre.
This was about 12 years ago and I found a small resort on a “good” muskie lake in central MN. One of the remaining “ma and pa” resorts with 5 cabins. I made my reservation for sometime in July for a week.
I was notified someone will meet me for check-in. When I get there I find that there is no longer anyone on the premise and the resort owner had a neighbor check me in at the uninhabited office main home.
I then find out that I’ll be the only guest at the entire resort (I was by myself for this trip) for the whole week. And this is peak summer season??
To say it was surreal was an understatement as I sat on the beach amongst all the other cabins…and I’m the only one there!
Rather strange, but then it get’s stranger.
I decide to take an afternoon to hike around the lake. First I come across a dilapidated cabin like the one in your photo and explore through that and wondered about the history of who owned it and who spent time there…sorting through the remains that were left.
As I made my way around the lake I found not one but 3 abandoned resorts…and that was really spooky. One looked like it was post WW2 because the cabins were built like military barracks…but it was clearly an old resort.
I rummaged around all 3 of them and not another soul around. It was like time stopped years ago and nobody ever came back.
That will be one of the strangest fishing vacations I’ll have ever had. And no muskies were caught either.
