There was one over 50″ that was brought into Terry’s to get weighed. Terry told him to leave immediately, from what I understand.

Someone brought in a speared musky to terry’s? I find that hard to believe. Why would someone do that? That would be like bringing in a stringer with 12 walleye on it saying you caught em’ all!?

I heard this from Terry’s mouth on the radio show Bear Facts and Fish Tails. He explained that he had someone who wanted to weigh their huge pike that turned out to be a big musky. He knows for sure lots of muskies are being speared.

I also taled to a guy I know that spears all the time who said that there are a lot of people who spear that don’t know how to tell the difference, even out of the water.

I for one am going up sat to spear millacs. I want to see a log come thru. like said before I am more interested in eaters. maybe if a 20 lb plus comes thru. and yes I know the difference between the 2.

just wish I knew where to start…..but that’s half the fun. and from the reports I have heard yea there are big fish taken but you may only see 2-3 fish per day.

I will be up there also…… just remember we single handedly destroyed ML’s pike populating buy not having a hook mortality and releasing poorly hooked fished. But by intending to eat every fish we take and the rest are left untouched and unknowing we were there!

I support your ambition to go to Mille Lacs and take your legal limit.

However, I as well as many others highly disagree with the DNR’s decisions on various harvest rules for this lake. It seems they are shooting from the hip and for political acceptance. Most of these decisions are greatly opposed by those affected.

Scary to think that someone would be so stupid as to bring in a speared Musky and ask to weigh their Northern Pike. Idiot…RR

I’ve fished in many lakes where abundant walleye and big pike coexist. If the walleyes are down it’s likely due to some other reason poor year class, something eating fry and-or eggs, etc.. I’m glad they don’t allow spearing of pike in NYS or the parts of Ontario where I fish.
Once you purge the system of the big breeders look forward to lots of hammer handles in years to come. It’s a viscous circle. I’ve seen it happen with bass and with pike. Purge the system of big breeders that have the genes to grow big and fill your lake with stunted fish in a few years.

Good bad ugly we each have our own side of the story…. but hear is my question and it is a question!! so why in the USA is spearing (taking of a fish) bad? That said and before you give a response look across the ocean to Germany were you keep the one fish you catch and they get bigger pike than us state side! I know Europe is diff than the US but….. just think about that and how we (CPR guys) act too spearers …….. take it in and think!!!!! we all love our sport and we need to help each other so we can carry on a tradition!! am out.

The whole rumor of a 50+ ” Muskie getting speared was investagted by the MNDNR and MDAA “MN Darkhouse and Angling Association.”

It was a bad rumor that somebody started and then was talked about in the Mille lacs Messenger.

The author of the article has apologised for not fact checking and has agreed to clear up the issue in the next publication.
