Monday night was out fishing and was able to see them with the naked eye. Of course the phone camera captured it better tho

This is from my house on the South side of Rochester. Set my phone face down on my deck railing and used a 3 second exposure aiming straight up. Figured out later that the lense protector causes that vignette type circle in the middle. About 5 minutes later the entire sky was visibly red, then everything just disappeared.

Dangit! I should have been paying attention on the way back from my kids firearm safety class. We would have been able to see them perfectly.

Worked a few night shifts in Hayward this week, and on my way back around 3 to 4 am when we were in bfe we could see them like no other. I don’t recall if it was Monday or Tuesday night but they were the best I’ve seen with my own eyes. The phones take cool pics but it’s showing what we don’t normally see so it’s not that interesting to me. The dancing I seen with my eyes was pretty awesome. Swirling greens and reds and pink like the sky was on dancing with the stars.

Photography has extremely skewed people’s perceptions of what the northern lights actually look like to the naked eye. I have zero interest in seeing photos. But the real deal is pretty incredible.

Last night it was visible by the eye here in Rochester. Moving and dancing for about 20 minutes then just disappeared. The pics I posted are only a little better than what I could see with the eye. By far the best I’ve ever seen in person.

Would have loved to been in BFE to see these ones. Can’t wait to move out of this craphole they call a city and move to somewhere considered BFE to see them more reliably.

A few weeks back when they were going my neighbor was sending us pics and I was on the deck saying what the hell, I don’t see that. Then the woman took a pic and we were like oh yeah the phone really pops them out. I didn’t know that until then.
When we were between Hayward and Spooner or some where in that ball park is when we pulled over and killed the truck lights and they were awesome. Last night I was sleeping early so I missed that.

    Munchy, what time was this?

The first pic in camera folder was 9:07. Last pic was 9:18. Completed around 9:20. Checked a few other times before bed and nothing visible. Should have checked when my 2 year old screamed for me at 2am but was too dang tired.

They were crazy good at the cabin outside of Spooner last night. Hoping this video will upload.

May as well be doctored from all the cell phone camera night filters. Sure as hell dont look like that through your eyeballs. Regular slr camera dont look like that.

I checked them out while outside for a bit, but the whole cell phone enhancement really overpumps what they are/have been lately.

I still remember being on LOTW a few years back and it was a whole different ball game there compared to here. It looked like the pictures posted above to the naked eye.

I downloaded some app that tells you peak times. the dam thing went off 3 times last night and i got no sleep. you def see them pop on a cell phone for some reason? pretty cool but i seen some sunsets along P4 that rival any northern lights.
