Brought my new to me boat home from North Dakota today. I didn’t make it to the dmv. I met the owner at his bank looked over boat and went in and made the deal. I was given a lean release and he signed my title transfer for the boat and one for the trailer. The boat is registered for North Dakota. Am I just stuck with a lawn ornament till I get into the dmv or can I take it out for a spin. I have to work all next week and won’t get in to the dmv it looks like for two weeks.

Take that thing out. Covid stuff isn’t the peoples problems and you can fight it. I’ve done it 2 times on my bike. New address and no acceptance to a local dmv to re do my registration.
July 24, 2020 at 10:55 pm #1960179I like the way you think 👍
I hate to do it. But it has come to a release and dismiss of both tickets

July 24, 2020 at 10:56 pm #1960182been out 30 plus times this year…..only seen 1 sherriff. take it out and who gives a $hit. they are kneeling at sporting events I mean what is the worst thing that could happen!
July 24, 2020 at 11:00 pm #1960184I was thinking maybe its legal. If a guy from North Dakota vacations in mn with his boat for a weekend is his registration good enough.

Sorry i didn’t mean to multiple post.
But yes this is key until they look at his fishing license

July 24, 2020 at 11:18 pm #1960199true I guess it’s your choice if you feel lucky or not before you do it legally. maybe if you have all the paperwork with you, they cut you slack? I guess I wouldn’t worry too much
DeucesPosts: 5236July 25, 2020 at 12:01 am #1960204I don’t know what I’ll do when a new boat sits in the garage. Probably go visit it at night, make sure it’s ok, sing it a lullaby.
Nice rig.
July 25, 2020 at 3:17 am #1960209Gino, take the boat and go fishing. Nobody will give a rats a$$ where the registration is from UNLESS you get reported for being a dip$hit or game violations. Then they will look you over.
I ran my boat with Illinois registration stickers for two years before sticking the Minnesota ones on.

This^
Have copies of what you sent in to register it and no worries, you’re legal.
July 25, 2020 at 7:37 am #1960230There’s risk, no doubt. Be aware you could get cited in the rare chance you get caught though.
July 25, 2020 at 8:11 am #1960244I’m from Ne. and have a place in Mn. Have fished up there all summer and haven’t been checked for anything yet
July 25, 2020 at 8:42 am #1960256If it stops raining I think I’ll take her for a rip . I’ll take copies of all paperwork with. I can’t see it as that big of a deal. Probably go to lake with no ais inspectors. Lol
July 25, 2020 at 8:53 am #1960261Nice rig! Glad it all worked out, now go fishing! I think you have the paperwork with you and explain you just got it worst would be a warning to get it registered but who knows I have been wrong so many times but I would not hesitate to take it out for a spin.

deertrackerPosts: 9237July 25, 2020 at 6:44 pm #1960357Take the boat out and don’t worry about it. Even when it comes to motor vehicles, you have 30 days to transfer a title. It doesn’t have to be transferred before you use it.
DTJuly 25, 2020 at 7:52 pm #1960377Just make sure you get insurance on it. Do the rest in a timely manner.
July 25, 2020 at 8:46 pm #1960394When you do go to register them make sure you have a purchase price for the boat and a separate one for the trailer. In MN there’s sales tax on the trailer but not the boat when you buy from a private seller.
July 25, 2020 at 10:17 pm #1960422Have fun! I have a comp 175 myself but mines a full windshield. Great boats
