Has anyone tried this recipe. I’m hoping to try it this weekend if we can get a northern. Any tips.

Wasn’t that good. Don’t get me wrong it was edible, forget what part I liked a lil, think it tasted sweeter, but the texture thing certainly wasn’t there.

Our family really likes it. Texture is the same this way as baking it which we did in the past and like also.

The guys on KFAN Outdoors have been raving about this recipe for quite a while now. I haven’t tried it yet, but I did filet and cube up some pike recently that will be my trial.

I think KFAN Outdoors got the recipe from McQuoid Guides up at Devil’s Lake.

Here is the recipe from their website (http://www.mcquoidguides.com/home.html):

    7-up northern

    2″-2 1/2″ of 7-up in a pan
    Bring to a boil.
Cut filet into pieces drop in half of a filet for 4-5 minutes.
Take out and dip in butter, salt and pepper.
    Eat warm or cold.

done with pout it worked great, never thought a pike would be as good. I like baked or a beer batter pike, I’ll keep a pike or two in the winter/early spring, not too excited about them in the middle of summer.

I did it ice fishing at Winnie a few years back and everyone loved it. A cold beer goes with it too.

I like cooking pike the same as other fish. I like the big, firm flakes. The disclaimer being that I have only had it once in the last year.

Do people not like the flavor of pike?

I think people do not like the bones in pike. Pike seems to be a little easier to dry out than walleye to. Warm water pike like just about any other fish can not be so great either.

Used to cut the tail off from the rest of the fish and save those for the kids and my grandparents as they got older. No bones in that part and they loved them.

Only ignorant people. There is no cleaner tasting filet. Some may even say flavorless. Smooth.

My family loves pike, sunnies and channel cats. I have used the poormans lobster boil on eelpout and it was great. On Lake of The woods I keep every eelpout I catch and prepare it that way. Turned many people that where sceptical about eating pout into believers. I never though about trying it on pike but will do so this winter.

I have done the poor mans lobster, don’t boil the fish in 7up, I use plain old water then dip it in melted butter with lemon juice in it!!
