Crane lake. Looking out the window at the lake right now heading out on the houseboat tomorrow. Can’t beat VNP.

Barring that, my fantasy is a cottage along the MN North Shore overlooking Superior, with the BWCAW at my back, coffee cup in hand.
June 21, 2016 at 6:53 am #1625524Would love any place near Colorado! Love the scenery there!
Colorado is very nice! That’s always been on my short list
June 21, 2016 at 7:35 am #1625532Unlike some of you, when I move to my dream place I couldn’t give a rats fat behind if I ever get near a big city again. I am hoping to retire in west central MN. Close to the farm with great hunting and tons of great fishing lakes. Nice small cottage on a quiet lake within 10 minutes of the farm. Now if I can just convince my wife that is her dream also

I would avoid Little California (the front range)….. To appreciate CO, you need to go into the mountains

June 21, 2016 at 12:00 pm #1625582So many choices and so much day dreaming on this topic
Option 1:
Summer – either the north arm of Rainy lake. hybrid – brainerd area with trips to the north armWinter – ski country. Vail is good for both skiing and social aspects with good proximity to Denver. Have friends too. Montana always has the upper hand though. Tie goes to Bozeman.
Option 2:
Summer – lake country same as option 1 above
Winter – Florida keysOption 3:
Live on the road, listen to Willie Nelson, have all the toys and no schedule. ex. one summer do a two month trip through just Ontario. Take a right or left as the whim hits. Great place, great fishing – stay a while. Not so hot – so see what’s around the corner.
Alaska – good for a few months too.
Winter – what’s southern Utah like? Maybe Colorado?June 21, 2016 at 1:16 pm #1625593Not one single vote for Iowa….. Hmmm
I’ve lived in 3 states. 18 years in Iowa, 5 years in South Dakota, 3 years (and most likely the rest of my life because of the wife, kids, and responsibility) in Minnesota. While I love Iowa and wouldn’t have traded my childhood of growing up there for anything, it does rank 3rd on my list of the 3 states I’ve lived in. South Dakota is by far #1 on my list of these 3.

Well, if my wife was a member on the site…
June 21, 2016 at 2:54 pm #1625612Lansing, Iowa. Nice little town on the big river. Grew up fishing there and look forward to going back whenever I can.

I’ve spent a little time around Lake of the Ozarks and always thought it seemed like a nice place. Some of those big reservoir lakes have amazing fishing opportunities.
June 21, 2016 at 4:42 pm #1625625Ontario. The Kenora/Dryden area is what I like. Wife family is from there, so maybe I should plug a little hint next time we are visiting.
June 21, 2016 at 6:55 pm #1625636Cal, you might need to work on your accent and learn a bit of “Canuck” before moving there.
June 22, 2016 at 5:51 am #1625662Its funny, my uncle has a beautiful home on Potato Lake near Park Rapids. He cant see his neighbors, lots of wooded acreage, close to Red Lake, Leech, not too bad for LOTW, trout lakes and steams too. Yet when we go to Vermilion, he talks about how he could live there because its so beautiful.
June 22, 2016 at 8:16 am #1625690Potato? Connected to Eagle Lake? Great memories on Eagle Lake when I was growing up. The neighborhood families would all rent RVs and stay at Breeze Campground every year for a week.
June 22, 2016 at 10:15 am #1625747No wife, kids or responsibility…… Oh boy.
I don’t know if I would move away to anywhere. Like said above. I would live on a houseboat right here on the Mississippi and let the wind blow me in all directions. I could always travel to Alaska, Canada and the ocean easy. Park the house boat when needed and you have no lawn to mow and taxes to pay. But I would always find myself coming back here where the rivers meet and always call this home.
Funny reading this. My wife and I have talked a lot about the opposite lately. Because of the kids and our family we have been talking about getting out of the cities and finding a place best to raise kids. My wife grew up on a dairy farm and has seen the simple life next to the city life. We are juggling what is best for our kids right now. Not sure what is best for them but do know this is about the only thing that would make me move from where we live now..
