I was just patrolling my back yard looking for land mines my dogs dropped when I found this:

Could it really be a Morel mushroom???

Lilacs have been blooming around here this fall and never saw that before, so I suppose a stray morel could happen? Have you ever had them in your yard before?

I have not seen them before but I’ve only lived here for two years.

I thought morels only grew in the spring.

Lilacs in our neighborhood have been doing that for a few years. It’s some disease that most of them survive but some have to be trimmed way back then grow back from there. The whites don’t seem to do as well as the purples.

Not saying it’s not but it doesn’t look right to me . The ones I’ve found are not wet or slimy looking at all and are a little more uniform.

    That’s a Stinkhorn

They smell like hell and pop up in the fall. Before they look like that they have a slimy green skin on them that falls off.

They’ve gotten me excited before, until I realize what month it is lol

Yea it was slimy looking. I didn’t touch it. Pushed it around with my pooper scooper to get a good picture.

This September and last September I saw purple lilacs blooming in Hastings. Two different spots. Never seen or heard of it before!
