I agree with everyone. I have felt the exact same way every time I visit the Woodbury store. Fishing dept is a joke. Joe’s usually carries popular stuff all summer. Otherwise online shopping is the most reliable.

BassPro is good, but don’t go to a BassPro Outpost store. Cabela’s in Woodbury is probably better stocked with tackle.
July 10, 2018 at 1:35 pm #1784960With Gander gone I guess we found our next victim.
That’s funny.
I drove by the old Sportsmans Guide in Woodbury yesterday. Right past the doors. And man do I miss that place.July 10, 2018 at 1:39 pm #1784961“I drove by the old Sportsmans Guide in Woodbury yesterday. Right past the doors. And man do I miss that place.”

July 10, 2018 at 1:48 pm #1784964Sportsman’s Warehouse in Coon Rapids re-opens in a new location at the end of July. I have to say I am looking forward to it, but not sure if it will be as good as I remember it being.
July 10, 2018 at 3:06 pm #1784978I like to fish simple with out needing the latest mouse trap and I do just fine catching fish for the most part. The headache of findinding that special color or special plastic or reel just does not enter the equation for me. I have gone to cabelas for tents and sleeping bags because they were close but never relied on them for fishing equipment. If FF does not have it I don’t need it. For electronics I do use a small local online dealer that have used since 2005. Fishing poles a small local company that puts out reasonble prices with quality
performance. If there were a Joe’s close buy like FF that would be great.
I do agree I miss sportsman wharehouse. I got some neat ice fishing stuff there and some cool picture frames. They were the only ones that carried ticca reals that I knew of.
July 10, 2018 at 3:16 pm #1784982Chris is that going to be next to Home Depot in Riverdale?
Just East of Home Depot Dustin. The new sign went up a week or two ago.
July 10, 2018 at 3:17 pm #1784983Curious? After spending the winter and part of the spring on the west side of the cities where does one get tackle besides Dicks with out driving 10 miles that takes an hour and a half.

Gander/Overton’s in EP, Wayzata Bait and Tackle, Fleet Farm in Carver, Cabin Fever in Victoria, and DH Rods and Tackle in Wayzata.

there aren’t any convenient super mega stores. I usually go to fleet farm in carver myself but the others listed by Bigwerm are great options as well
July 10, 2018 at 4:51 pm #1785004Good to know, being by Hopkins High FF in carver and the victoria one be a quite a jog. Wayzata bait, is that in the corner in that small strip mall off 394 and 494? Very close to where I was if so, just didn’t get a chance to go in. I installed a patio in Minnitonka Beach last year I had no idea I was so close to DH costom rods and tackle I even ate at that Culvers, so close!

yup you have the location of Wayzata bait and tackle correct. very nice people in there and they have a fair amount of tackle. I don’t go in there much as i live on the west side of the lake. DH also carries a fair amount of tackle too. If you are in Hopkins you might find the Gander in Eden Prarie the most convenient
Ty VanNestPosts: 1July 12, 2018 at 11:31 am #1785391The employees I talked to in Cabela’s stores in South Dakota and Nebraska said they are in the process of selling through some Cabela’s branded terminal tackle, plastics, lures, reels, rods, etc. to make room for Bass Pro branded Fishing items. Starting this Fall and going forward, the stores will have a mix of national brands, Bass Pro, and Cabela’s rods/reels, fishing tackle and accessories which will be much deeper in quantities on hand and assortment carried. This isn’t limited to just the Fishing Department. Both Bass Pro and Cabela’s will carry different BPS/Cabela’s private lines in logo hunting, clothing, camo, footwear, and casual clothing. Redhead and Herter’s for example. Bass Pro stores will also be getting Cabela’s branded hunting and archery items.
Nick BilligPosts: 5July 12, 2018 at 1:39 pm #1785424I heard the same thing, Ty. They’re in the final stages of the merger and the stores will be stocked well once that process is over and all of the buying is under Bass Pro. That should be the case very soon..
Jeff SchomakerPosts: 392July 12, 2018 at 3:11 pm #1785444All that means is Cabela’s is gonna have the same jacked up prices bass pro already has. Their tackle prices are so much higher than everywhere else it’s ridiculous. Maybe I price shop to much but I’m not gonna spend an extra $1-$3 on a lure when I don’t have to.
July 12, 2018 at 11:46 pm #1785504And no one has mentioned getting hounded to sign up for the “cabelas card”…or maybe they have and I missed it.
NytronPosts: 8July 13, 2018 at 1:24 pm #1785583The main problem is the buyers are just suits who don’t even hunt or fish. There is no system whereby the buyers talk with customers or sales associates to see what is actually in demand or what is out of stock.
July 15, 2018 at 11:44 pm #1785915Blows my mind that they don’t have some sort of Point of Sale system (I’m sure they have something in place) that tells them the current inventory and a level set for when that inventory gets below the set level an automatic order or notification is made. When I was in high school working at crappy retail jobs they had this type of system. Can’t see why they have to rely on people doing the ordering instead of an inventory system.
